My family and I recently visited Sugarloaf Mountain, which is located close to Marquette, Michigan. You have to really pay attention as you are driving along County Road 550 so that you don't miss the turn-in to the parking lot for the Sugarloaf Mountain trailhead. You'll have two hiking options: easy and difficult. Even with kids (ages 11 and 9),... More

Easy to find. Paved parking is immediately off of County Road 550. There are two trails that lead to the top and are nicely marked. Neither trail is that difficult. The difficult trail has rough terrain that takes you right to the top. The easy trail is mostly flat terrain with stairs to the top. It is longer of the... More

Great hike with a beautiful view at the top. We took the difficult trail up and easy trail down. I liked the rugged difficult trail better. Bring your binoculars, we saw two bald eagles!

Great hike with an awesome view of Lake Superior that was about 1 hour round trip. There is an "easy route and a hard route". This hike was easy to find from the roadway.

Remains a favorite destination every time we visit. Love the view and the climb is great exercise. Took the EASY trail up to enjoy the winding trail though the rocks. But then easy is a relative term...you climb 300 stairs. The view is worth the climb, especially in the Fall. Seeing the shoreline, Presque Isle, Hogsback and Lake Superior is... More

My husband and I are seniors, 68 & 72. We hiked Sugarloaf Mountain and we were not disappointed. There are two trails. One easy and one difficult. We took the difficult one, which was recommended by our hotel manager. He said the easy one has lots of steps and if you have knee problems, it could be more difficult. I... More

My wife and I recently hiked up sugarloaf during a stay in Marquette. As others have stated there is a regular trail up the mountain, and an "easier" route with steps. One thing to keep in mind is both paths lead to the same place - several sets of steps to reach the viewing platforms. We took the trail up,... More

We were supposed to kayak at Pictured Rocks but it was too windy so we drove over to Marquette. We thoroughly enjoyed the trails at Sugarloaf along with the view. We continued past Sugarloaf and eventually ended up near an old cabin site right by Lake Superior. The trail was fun and there were a lot of songbirds singing along... More

One of my young families favorite activities in Marquette. Great view at the top, well worth the exertion to get there. Just take your time and make sure to take rests when needed. The "easier" trail starts out with a nice stroll down a crushed gravel path, and gradually builds up to multiple sets of stairs to the top, but... More

It's a nice walk, but with a LOT of stairs. Once you get to the top, it's so worth it! We took the easy path on the way up, and the difficult way on the way down. The difficult path is steeper.
