Sugarloaf mountain is just north on your way to Big Bay. It is all uphill but you can use handrails for the last steep parts if you want to or you will see there are multilple other ways to get to the top. The view is spectacular and the woods on the way are very pretty and characteristic of the... More

Superior views literally and figuratively. As others have mentioned, it's worth coming early as the parking lot is not very big. We got there around 9am and the lot was nearly full when we came back down a couple hours later. The difficult trail isn't really that bad. Just has lots of rocks and tree roots along the way, so... Whenever someone comes to visit us here in Marquette County (not in the winter) we usually take them up to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. The walkway and stairs are in good condition. The view of Lake Superior and the surrounding area is spectacular.

Located 5 or so minutes out of Marquette, don't miss the sign along the hwy! We have a 10 & 12 yr old & our family is active but not exercise freaks. We took the hard trail because it's faster & did just fine. Took 15-20 minutes to get to top. Took the easy trail down which is flatter &... More

Nice hike with great views from the top; Lake Superior on one side and forests of the UP on the other.

My husband and I did this hike first thing in the morning and we were one of a few people who were out on the trails this earlier. I really wouldn’t call it a hike, it is a foot trail and it gets steep at times but it is an easy climbs even the one that is considered difficult. The... More

My family and I went to Sugarloaf Mountain. I have two other cousins and all three of us climbed the rocks all the way to the top. There were a few times when one of us slipped, but we never got hurt. At the top, there was three decks made out of wood at the peak. The rest of our... More

I've been traveling to the Marquette area for about 40 years and have always loved hiking up Sugarloaf. In an 1821 geographical survey it was referred to as "Mount Totosh". In 1846 it was referred to in a government survey map as Mount Burt after William Austin Burt, inventor of the solar compass. It's roughly 464 feet above Lake Superior... More

Love! Love! Love! So glad we hiked up Sugarloaf Mountain!!! We took the difficult trail up and and easy trail down. Gave us a good workout going up and a relaxing walk back down. The views were absolutely breathtaking and worth every step. You really don't want to miss this!
