A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac...

A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. There's just as much to see from the top of the tower as inside the original buildings. Authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, this "Castle of the Straits" is a true gem of the Great Lakes.

The gentleman that gave us a tour of the tower knew his information. He answered all our question. This was a neat and informative experience.

Been going to Mackinaw my whole life and remember when this was run down and not open to the public. So nice to be able to go in it and see it restored! Such a beautiful building. Go up and look out!

Nice looking lighthouse with view of Mackinac Bridge, entry fee but free outside, very pretty. Nice park along shore and tourist street just a few streets away. Hotel right across street. Must see if you are in area.

We visited the lighthouse in the afternoon. There are four buildings on the grounds. The fog house which preceded the lighthouse and is now a gift shop. The two front buildings have a movie on the Mackinac Straits and the other a museum. The tour has a guide and we were the only ones on his tour. He was very... More

Tour this historic lighthouse from 1889 and see an original lighthouse lens and restored lighthouse keeper quarters that really give you the feel of what it was like navigating ships through the tumultuous waters of the Straits of Mackinac over nearly a hundred years ago. There is also an audiovisual program "Shipwrecks of the Straits" that make this great, educational... More

We went here on our last day of vacation. The tour was very informative and the guide made it a lot of fun. The view from the top was amazing. Afterwards we watch a short movie about the lighthouse and checked out the gift shop.

We didn't actually go into the buildings, but the grounds were very well kept and the parking lot could handle our 28' motorhome. We walked around the property and enjoyed an unobstructed view of the Mackinac Bridge. Lots of evidence the they have geese .... watch your step!

Although climbing the tower is always the highlight of any lighthouse tour, the museum detailing the history and lifestyle of the lighthouse-keeper and his family, as well as the technology which was used to keep the light burning, was highly illuminating (if you'll pardon the pun).
