Description: A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point...
A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. There's just as much to see from the top of the tower as inside the original buildings. Authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, this "Castle of the Straits" is a true gem of the Great Lakes.

Love going to this lighthouse. I'm in Mackinaw City 3 times a year and always go there to take photos. Like to do sunset pictures.

I didn't pay to go up into the lighthouse, but it was pretty to stop and walk around a little before we headed over to the island. It seemed like most people used it as a stop to let their animals out of the car for a bit

We like to sit in the park, read and listen to the waves splash on the shore. We dislike the pesty seagulls but have found that if you don't feed them that they will leave you alone.

I've toured a great many lighthouses and keeper's quarters throughout Michigan and along the Atlantic Coast, and this is among the better exhibits. The 50+ step escorted trip to the top of the lighthouse (with an interpreter in a "period" costume) was extremely informative; but the size of the groups is limited, so get to the site as early as... We went here because it was part of the multi-site ticket package. We were pleasantly surprised at how interesting it was. The Mackinac Bridge put the lighthouse out of business, but the lighthouse was indispensable before that. This exhibit showed us what life was like for the lighthouse keepers prior to 1957. We got to go up into the tower.... More

We did the tour here, fortunately there was only one other couple who went too. We climbed to the top of the tower, which wasn't so bad, except for being tall. But then...we climbed a little ladder and were up in the very top! The weather was perfect and the view was AMAZING and totally worth my fear of ladders... More

We got there after tour hours, but walked around the premises, and took several photos. Nice lighthouse, near the bridge.

I toured this lighthouse alone since my husband is claustrophobic. They tell you at the beginning not to go up if you are claustrophobic, don't like heights, have heart, hip or knee issues. The tours are very informative and small due to the small size of the tower. It sits at the base of the bridge, so on a clear... More

This lighthouse is just at the base of the bridge in Mackinaw City. There are fabulous views of the bridge, the lake, the lighthouse, etc. There are sidewalks to walk around, some shoreline to walk on, nice restrooms, restaurants, hotels, shops, etc. nearby. The lighthouse gives guided tours by a docent. I suggest bug spray as the mosquitos were out... More
