Description: A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point...
A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. There's just as much to see from the top of the tower as inside the original buildings. Authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, this "Castle of the Straits" is a true gem of the Great Lakes.

What a GEM....

This is a must-see gem if you like Lighthouses. The staff working at the Lighthouse were wonderful and seemed to really love working there.

Well kept grounds and buildings. Beautiful lighthouse. Easily accessible. Easy parking. Right on the shore. Benched to enjoy sitting there looking at the lake.

Spent a lovely evening here with my daughter, watching the sun go down and the lights turn on at the bridge. Love the history here!

Purchase the package deal that includes the fort! We went around the lighthouse and enjoyed the shipwreck museum and video, as well as the rooms inside the lighthouse itself. Climbing up was fun, but my 6'2" boyfriend could barely navigate the tight passages! Man is he glad he chose a different career. ;) It's great for the family, though small... More

A great mixture of independent, hands-on, media and live-guided tours. You have the opportunity to climb to the top, but even without that, there's plenty to see. And if you come wearing flipflops, they have a basket full of different sized sneakers to Don for the climb!

Wonderfully taken care of! Right on the straits of Mackinaw. The scenery is beautiful, the lighthouse is beautiful. The cost is higher than any other lighthouse in Michigan, Normal cost to tour a lighthouse is between$4.00-$5.00. This lighthouse charges $7.00. The explanation was we charge more because we show a movie, If you have never climbed to the top of... More

If you haven't visited this Lighthouse you should. I've been to Mackinaw City a few times now and this visit I did finally take a tour of the house and property. It's not a big complex and doesn't take much time. It was worth the visit and my husband took the tower tour which let's you walk up to the... More

The architecture of this lighthouse is beautiful and worth the visit to admire the pride in its structure. We wandered the grounds, reading the information signs and scenery of the area. Recommend to get feel of the area and geography understanding.

The Point Lighthouse and surrounding property is very, very well maintained and photogenic, so bring a camera! It is easy to see form nearly all angles and is situated in a way that it is well lit from most positions of the sun. Should you decide to purchase a ticket to enter the building, you will find the lighthouse to... More

Unfortunately the lighthouse was closed as I arrived too late in the day and was leaving the next morning, still I wandered around, read the signs, took pictures and learned great deal. Pity I missed the opening hours though!
