Travel in comfort and safety on Shepler's spacious vessels during these fascinating tours. For close to three centuries, the Straits of Mackinac has been a vital nautical thoroughfare, providing passage between Lakes Huron and Michigan. If you are interested in great lakes lighthouses, this is the trip for you. But be aware, you are out in the open lakes which can be very windy and rough. Dress accordingly. Summer weather temperatures in northern Michigan are cooler than the rest of the state, especially when you are on or near the water. Sheplers does a great... More

This was a quick ride to Mackinac Island. Boat was clean and cast friendly. The lines were long though. Get there early so that you don't have to wait another 1/2 hour.

Thank you for the review, but we think this might be on the wrong page. We have two pages, one for the Ferry to Mackinac Island and one for our Lighthouse Cruises. This page is designated for our narrated Lighthouse Cruises. Each of these cruises is 3-5 hours in length and narrated by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association. We... More

Excellent commentary on how various lighthouses were built; the history of the individual lighthouses(one was used as a bombing target in WWII) and how The Lighthouse Association goes about it's remarkable job of maintaining these structures.

There are 5 different lighthouse tours ranging from 3-5 hours in length. (Probably not suited for very young children.) It gets cold out there on the water so be sure to bring a wind breaker jacket and good shoes and you will be moving from the lower deck to the upper deck. The Captain always slows down and stops at... More

On a VERY cold 11am ride got to go under the Mackinaw bridge and see what a wonder it is. 5 stories high in the center. Amazing sight and now know why semi's and RV cannot go on during winds it is metal grated roadway. What a marvel and the trip to the island was just beautiful that day.

Traveled to the island in early May, a bit chilly of a ride, but beautiful. Rode the ferry that went under the bridge, such a treat! Friendly staff as well.

We highly recommend Shepler's! My husband and I stayed on the lower level of the boat and once the boat started moving fast I was so glad we made that choice. Many of the individuals sitting on the upper level slowly began moving below because of the mist. I was very impressed with the knowledgeable stories told by our captain... More

Took a 9:30 am ferry to Mackinac Island which traveled under the Mackinaw bridge--was very nice with a little narration about the history about the building of the bridge. Ferry left on time both coming & going & all employees were pleasant!!

The tour leaves out of Mackinaw city and then proceeds to show you all of the lighthouses it can in a 3 hour period. The tour guide was interesting to a point, but, for my tastes, I wouldnt do it again. Too pricey (about 50.00 a person) and I got bored looking at lighthouses for 3 hours. The boat was... More
