With automobiles banned since 1898, here exists a quieter way of life away from interstate noise of cities. Over 80 percent of Mackinac Island is within Mackinac Island State Park—free of charge and open year round—where you’ll discover the true natural gems of Mackinac. Whether visiting this island parkland by foot, bike, horseback, or carriage, these many majestic geological wonders and unique historical monuments are visual treasures found only here—on the island sacred to the Ojibwa and Odawa Great Lakes Indian tribes. Mackinac Island could be the place for you. You might love it. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want peace and relative quite, you will love it. It is very slow paced. No cars, so be prepared to bike or walk. My wife liked it. I did not. The smell of the horses going in... More

The Mackinac Island is a very nice place to visit. It is nice to get away from all of the hustle and bustle and noise of everyday life. This trip will take you back to some of what it was like in the 1800's. We were there for 5 or 6 hours and did not have enought time to see... More

It was 4th July, also known as Independence Day or the Fourth of July. USA declared its independence from Britain. It is national holiday and for me it was full week vacation. So finally I had the opportunity to visit a significant historical place Mackinac Island, which has some unique characteristics and most popular tourist place in Michigan State. Michigan‘s... More

Absolutely loved this place! Very beautiful! So much to see & do here. I would love to go back because we didn't get to do everything we wanted to do. Ran out of time! Great food & snacks. Lots of souvenir shops!

The Island really is one great big state park. Bike and hike and then do it again at another time of day to catch the lighting changes. Come back again and again... Enjoy!

My husband, mother in-law and myself took the hydro-ferry over to the Island for the day. Of course this wasn't cheap, but it's about the only way to get there. It was a very busy place. Lots of shops, restaurants, and sites to see. We found a place off the main path that was a better deal for a carriage... More

This is like a walk back in time! Love the fact there is no motorized vehicles on this Island. We took a carriage tour which was a lot of fun and very informative. The hotel is a MUST see. Take your time, arrive early and stay late. There is a lot to see.

Mackinac Island is a great place to spend a day. You can take a carriage ride and see the highlights of the island or rent a bike and ride the 8 mile trail around the island. Some of the hotels are pricey but we found the Pontiac Lodge and thought it was nice for the price. The Grand Hotel has... More

We decided not to stay on the island since the hotel prices are so expensive. The ferry crossing is fun but when we went it was a cool day and very cold on the ferry, there was no enclosed area so by the time we arrived on the island we were frozen. There are no cars allowed on the island... More
