With automobiles banned since 1898, here exists a quieter way of life away from interstate noise of cities. Over 80 percent of Mackinac Island is within Mackinac Island State Park—free of charge and open year round—where you’ll discover the true natural gems of Mackinac. Whether visiting this island parkland by foot, bike, horseback, or carriage, these many majestic geological wonders and unique historical monuments are visual treasures found only here—on the island sacred to the Ojibwa and Odawa Great Lakes Indian tribes. According to them, this is where life began. You’re invited to discover why. « less

Quite and scenic views. Rent a bike and tour the island. Tip: start by heading North up main street toward Arch Rock. Because if you head South you will end up going up hill from British Landing to the St Anne's Cemetery. It is two miles of up hill climb. We rented a tandem which was fun. More

From the view of the bridge, the trees, the breeze coming off the lake, you really can't miss. We bring our children every year! More

Very interesting, historical, and unique island. A bite overpriced in my opinion esp if you take the family but still a bite of important history. More

This state park includes the fort, the Beaumont house and St. Annes Church. All are great attractions with uniformed interpreters and scheduled demonstrations. More

Our favorite part of any Mackinac Island visit is visiting the buildings and For Mackinac in the state park. The re-enactors do a good job of interpreting what life was like at various time periods in history. Combining a visit to the fort on the island with Fort Michilimackinac on the mainland gives a good perspective as to what life... More

My teenager thought it was going to be boring but she loved it. The Fort is cool. We had lunch at the Fort overlooking the straights, it was the best view anywhere. Carriage ride was informative and enjoyable. Loved the ferry ride over as well. They even took us under the Mackinac Bridge. More

For a short time the Mackinac Island State Park was the Nation's first National Park. It lost that status to Yellowstone when the Federal Government ceeded it to the State of Michigan, but it is still represents the best accumulation of beautiful original two and three hundred year old buildings in the country. I'd rate it higher than Williamsburg, VA... More

If your children and grandchildren have never been to the magical land of Mackinac Island, it would be a good thing to have on your "bucket" list. There is so much history to see and feel with the living enactments going on at the fort. The absence of motorized vehicles adds to the magic. I always suggest staying on the... More
