Fantastic family place with lots of hands-on activities and demonstrations. more
We visited the fort in September, which is considered the off-season. While there were still a few staff members doing demonstrations, most of the summertime activities had stopped for the season. The demonstrations we saw were very good- these guys really knew what they were talking about, and their passion for the subject was quite obvious. They could answer any... more
We visited Fort Mackinac while spending 3 nights on the Island. My boys ages 9 and 11 enjoyed it - we saw the musket firing and the cannon firing. The view is great and the buildings are interesting and well presented. However, we also visited Colonial Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City and felt that the people working there were more enthusiastic,... more
My son loved the history of the fort. They allow kids and adults to take part in some re-enactments and they all seemed to have fun. Must see the cannon and rifle shows. Great view of the island from the top of the fort. more
My 6 year old really liked this place. He loved the cannon firing and the children's games presentation. The displays are done very well, especially the hands on kids stuff. I would say that people with strollers or disabilities would probably miss a lot, becasue there are lots of steps. It is quite a walk up the hill, but well... more
This fort is very nicely presented, with a lot of historical information available. I feel it is well done, especially for children to understand and grasp. There are great reinactments with cannon firings, musket firings, trials (done with humor). Be sure and walk the elevated portion of the fort-look out for the enemy-lol. The place is immaculate. $10/adult. Be sure... more
This is a beautiful Island to visit. The Fort has been kept in mint condition and they still have reenactments. I believe they still fire the cannons a couple of times daily. There are many things to see on this island and also the home of America's first millionair William Backhouse Astor and I believe his net worth was somewhere... more
Unlike one of the reviewers, my wife and I enjoy the very minor physical challenge of Mackinac Island and the short hike to the Fort.. A travel must see and visit for a few days to get the real spirit of (The Turtle Island) Mackinac. Wake up to the clop of horse drawn dreys and carriages, rise early, go to... more
Fort Mackinac is a must visit attraction on this island...we paid $10 per adult to enter the fort. The fort is a combination of about 15 or so small building with all them having their own significance...like the soldier room, wash room, store house etc. I really liked the guided tour along with canon and rifle firings...prepare with a lot... more
