On the advice of a Michigan State Police officer, I visited the museum for their Civil War display. It was amazingly spectacular. It was beautifully done with non-glare glass or plastic. One could readily take photographs without glare or reflections. It was relevant to Michigan regiments or Michiganders. Rarely is there such attention to detail or the "experience". Nice job!... Enjoyed this museum with displays of Michigan history from ancient days to current days. Well laid out with informative signage. We're glad we made the time to visit.

If you want to learn about Michigan history, this is the place. Very informative and the displays span a few hundred years. Learn about Native Americans, Michigan during the Civil War, WWII, cars, Michigan musicians, and way more. On Sundays there are no entrance or parking fees but they're only open 1-5 Sundays and you'll need the entire four hours... More

This is an amazing place. A great library and an over the top museum that actually took me back to time. The Historical Museum has an amazing layout and a staff that not only looks the part they are informed and educated to serve in their respective exhibits - Young and old will enjoy this great place in Downtown Lansing

I so enjoyed this site and all that it held for a genealogist at heart. This was my fourth or fifth trip to visit this site.

I went with my 5 year old who loved running around. He paid ok attention to the displays, and there's a little cafe on the first floor with snacks and coffee and small sandwiches and wraps. Parking is 1 dollar hourly in the parking lot across Allegan St from the building.

We visited the museum on June 5. The parking lot is on the left side of the museum (1 dollar an hour). Before you leave you have to pay the parking. The second and third floor are nice with the diorama's. Visit the museum on a day that there are no school trips. When we visited there were 22 trips... More

What a great display of exhibits. It starts with pre historic times in Michigan and works in chronological order. The museum also focuses on categories of progress and the different regions of the state. I went with my daughter's third grade class and we had a great time.

So much to lear about the early history, founding, and early industry of our state. Fun experience for kids and adults
