Being in Lansing and skipping one of the most beautiful historical buildings would be the greatest sin for history buffs :) As we were told, this building in Victorian style is the only state capitol building in the U.S. designated as a National Historic Landmark. It's definitely worth a visit to take historical stairs made of wood, visit a historical... More

Lansing and East Lansing are essentially dull towns, so a visit to the capital if you are bored is something to do in a day. The design is somewhat Victorian with the kind of artwork on the ceilings and walls one expects from the era and the woodwork is of exceptional quality. There are tours and self guided walks, a... The Michigan capital is at the end of Michigan avenue. The red brick streets are preserved from the past. The scaffolding from the ground to the spire around the capital impacts any picture. The Texas capital in Austin is more picturesque.

Many people don't realize that you can walk right into our beautiful Capitol. No appointment necessary. The artwork is beautiful. The history is rich. The only place you can't go is the floor of the house and senate. To view the chambers simply find the gallery and take a look at the beautiful woodwork and artwork inside. Park across the... More

We visited the Capitol on June 5. You will find parking lots around the Capitol but they have all parking meters. At the information desk you have the possibility to take a guided tour (1 Hr). On Fridays the Senate and Chamber are not in session. Every floor is accessible by elevator. Lay back on the first floor and watch... More

I had been to the capitol when I was younger and had great memories. This was my husband's first visit. We did the self-guided tour, I am sure we would have learned more in a guided tour but it was bogged down with school kids that day. That was completely fine, I like the idea of knowing kids are still... More

Beautiful old architecture. We visited with our 12 & 14 year old and they enjoyed it just as much as the adults. It's well worth a stop if you're in the area. You can do a self guided tour and make your way through the building in a shorter or longer amount of time if you wish to go at... More

Our guide for the school field trip was amazing in his delivery. We got to go on the Senate floor and the state senator talked to us about how things are done on the floor. The glass floor was really neat and the rotunda was amazing to look at from under neath. Lots of great wood work and cabinetry in... More
