As other reviewers have noted, the dunes are most certainly worth the trip. Moreover if you take the scenic drive be sure to stop at the Lake Michigan overlook. When you do, you will see a sign that recommends you not descend the 450 feet down to the lake as the climb up is "extremely exhausting." The only thing I... more

During our trip to Traverse City, we took a day to go to Empire & Sleeping Bear Dunes. After a stop at the visitor's center, we went to the Dune Climb. WOW! My kids are 9 and 6 and loved this. We kicked off our shoes and enjoyed the barefoot walk/climb up the dune. The kids enjoyed rolling/sliding/running down the... more

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a must see if you are anywhere in the area. Swim in beautiful blue water, hike, climb a sand dune, or simply soak up the sun and spectacular views. We stayed in Traverse City and it was easy to reach from there. Just a short drive away. more

We have been to Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore several times but recently visited during a weekend in June and were reminded once again how special this park is. If you are visiting the Traverse City area, this should be number 1 on the to do list. For those not familiar with Northwestern Michigan, you will be stunned by the huge... more

Highly recommend the pierce stocking scenic drive to really see the dunes and the most beautiful scenery. The walking trail off this driving tour is a bit strenuous and long, but there are some nice things along the way. Overall you could really see enough without the walking trail. Cost for the drive was $10 and worth every penny! more

We have friends with a cabin and 4-wheelers in Cadillac and we were planning a 4 day stay there. I jumped on-line to find something nearby for a day trip and came across this place. I had never heard of it. We took the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and the first couple of stops proved to be intersting, but at... more

Don't let the cold keep you away. There is a lot to do and see and you don't have to wait in line at the restaurants. The room rates are great this time of year. It's a great time for hiking, snowshoing, and photography. more

This place is so big and awesome. Such beautiful and gorgeous scenery. We first went to the Hart Visitor Center in Empire. Then we drove north and took the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and stopped at all the points of interest. Unbelievable views and scenery. After that we went to the Dune Climb and then on to Glen Haven and... more

We traveled 3 years ago to Sleeping Bear Dunes, stayed in Glen Arbor and climbed the dunes several days. The first time we stopped at the dunes was unbelievable-all the happy crys and shouts of the people climbing the big dune. It is hard to describe the happy feeling seeing such a big pile of sand can give a person!... more

If you ever wondered what northwestern michigan looks like, go to Sleeping Bear Dunes. It is a wonder of nature and breathtaking. Okay class, go get your Michigan maps and go to the far norhtwest corner of Michigan's lower peninsula. You should see a wavy shoreline and two small islands not far from the mainland. That is Sleeping Bear Dunes... more
