This is one of my favorite old churches in Detroit, and it is still well taken care of. My brother was married here and my son baptized. You can't help but feel a sense of peace when you enter.

It is an old well cared for church right on Monroe Street in Greektown. Stop in to see the architecture or to take a quiet rest

We are lucky enough to have such a beautiful church in our area. The carvings are so beautiful. The organ is magnificent. This is another jewel of the Detroit Area.

Old St. Mary's is an amazing church in terms of architecture. We've all heard the stories about Detroit, the poverty, the abandoned buildings, etc. On one side you're glad it's preserved and maintained, on the other, it's hard to reconcile the money need to maintain this church with the poverty in Detroit. During a Christmas visit to the Detroit area, we stayed at the Greektown Casino Hotel, adjacent to Old St. Mary Church. Upon research with the hotel concierge, we found that this old church is still fully operational and had Christmas Eve Midnight Mass scheduled. We attended the service and we were so moved by the elegance of this historical building,... More

Lovely interior of a very traditional Catholic Church. It still celebrates some masses in Latin. Nearby Jesuit St. Peter &Paul has a more liberal philosophy.

Old St Mary's is a wonderfully beautiful church. I wandered around, enjoying the art and interesting grottoes for half an hour. It is located right in Greek Town as well, which is a unique and fascinating area.

Was delighted to find the church open as mass was just ending. The interior of the church has a strong European influence and rivals the beauty of those in Rome. Don't forget to look up at the impressive ceiling. Make a point to visit the Blessed Mother's Grotto tucked into a back corner, a lovely retreat and place to spend... More

Beautiful, inspiring, well preserved, and I could continue to go on and on. The point is, that once You are in Greektown, You probably aren't thinking about God...until You go to the Church

A beautiful church - a quiet respite in the midst of always bustling Greektown. Be sure to take time to look around - the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is a replica. There is so much to see you could make a mini retreat just by walking around.
