Lovely interior of a very traditional Catholic Church. It still celebrates some masses in Latin. Nearby Jesuit St. Peter &Paul has a more liberal philosophy.
Old St Mary's is a wonderfully beautiful church. I wandered around, enjoying the art and interesting grottoes for half an hour. It is located right in Greek Town as well, which is a unique and fascinating area.
Was delighted to find the church open as mass was just ending. The interior of the church has a strong European influence and rivals the beauty of those in Rome. Don't forget to look up at the impressive ceiling. Make a point to visit the Blessed Mother's Grotto tucked into a back corner, a lovely retreat and place to spend... More
Beautiful, inspiring, well preserved, and I could continue to go on and on. The point is, that once You are in Greektown, You probably aren't thinking about God...until You go to the Church
A beautiful church - a quiet respite in the midst of always bustling Greektown. Be sure to take time to look around - the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is a replica. There is so much to see you could make a mini retreat just by walking around.
Early churches are among some of the most interesting urban architecture. Old St. Mary's is a splendid as any with stunning stained glass windows. For the faithful, the church would surely be an inspirational place to worship.
I attended here for a Sunday service many years ago but was captivated by the traditional Catholic liturgy and the beauty of not only the building, but the worship itself. I greatly enjoyed it.
A testament to the faith of the early residents who helped make Detroit such a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
