Roads are numbered (8 mile Road, 15 miles Road) and though one would think it's easy access your where a bouts ij towjn. It's right across fro the International Bridge into Canada. My GPS is on my phone and it would... More

My niece and I drove into Detroit for a day visit. It was interesting to see the run down and burned out buildings on the way in. When we got into the city we went into the REN centre (which was a total contrast) and did the tour, which was pretty amazing. You did not have to go very far... More

Visited Detroit City Centre / Downtown after attending the Michigan NSACARs in June. You would only make the trip if you had another attraction or function to attend. The downtown appeared to be abandoned, poorly maintained and nothing happening. The highlight was a couple of drinks at the GM Centre Bar and Restaurant on the 72nd floor overlooking the river... So, I recently moved to Detroit and this past weekend I did my first city sightseeing trip. To say the least, I was pleasantly surprised (again!). Sure, Detroit has fallen from grace over the past decade but I believe it has already passed its lowest point and is now moving upwards again. It's such an interesting dichotomy, one side of... More

Do not visit Detroit, it is the most depressing, corrupt city in America. With no mass transit, very poor bus system(wait time can take hours), and no quick way to get to Downtown from airport (the only way is expensive cab), you will have a difficult time navigating. There are no streetlights on the major freeways, so it is also... More

We parked in a manned garage for extra safety because many cars get broken into. There are a lot of strange characters walking around but plenty of normal people too. If you stay in the main downtown area and don't stray off then you will be fine. (We made a wrong turn and ended up on a one way out... More

Downtown Detroit has some gems, from places to listen to Motown, Comerica Park, Riverfront walk and some great restaurants. There are some places that you have to be really careful and I wouldn't recommend staying down there or parking your car outside (mine got broken into) but it is nice for a day or afternoon if you are in the... I've stayed here many times, this was the 1st time treated horribly! They advertised, "play an hour, free night stay" , (after we've payed many a night). We played an hour, reserved a night...upon check in, told we would not have a bathtub (handicap accessible), neither my husband or myself need this type of accommodation! Requested regular room with a... More

I am British and have just returned from a 5 day trip to Detroit. The aim of the trip? To visit my husband's former place of work/old colleagues and see (Sir) Elton John perform at the Joe Louis Arena - having missed an annual pilgrimage to see him in concert in the UK this year when he cancelled tour dates... Detroit downtown is very different, so you have to measure it on it's own scale. It's not for everyone and it's lacking a lot of usual features, but it also has something other cities don't have, so hopefully it will help you to set your mind. 1. Architecture. Great. Detroit went through some boom and bust cycles, so most of... More
