Bad day, dark, rainy, wrong period of the year. However this City is damaged. Terrible streets, building in poor conditions, road work in various places, .... Except the grosse pointe area Where you can see wonderful properties including the Ford house family the rest is scary, miles away from Chicago downtown, Boston or San Francisco..

This is an old Midwestern downtown whose boom and bust days are known -- but this is clearly a city on the rise with new buildings, new restaurants and young people now returning to downtown Detroit. This city has tons of potential and with some more time it will be a vibrant place once again.

The city was very clean and there was hardly any traffic which was a big surprise. We had to travel for a business event and was pleasantly surprised by how nice Detroit was.

There are lots of impressive high-rise buildings here, and some interesting art and architecture, but I noted that most of the ground-level storefronts in these buildings were not occupied. Many had signs stating that such-and-such a retailer was "coming", but ... not yet. As the Detroit Expert's spouse said, "It's a patchwork".

If you find yourself in downtown Detroit for a game or event ,The downtown core is safe and very walkable. Summer is the best time . but campus martius is lit up for the Christmas season along with a skate rink and winter fest activities. There are several building worth seeing the Guardian, is one and the architecture on many... More

On a recent visit to Michigan we were given a tour of the downtown area. With all the negative publicity that surrounds Detroit I didn't know what to expect. Although we just drove through the area I observed it to be no better or worse than any other large American city. Unlike other cities, I observed a distinct lack of... More

It's worth a visit but any rating above 3 stars just isn't realistic. Yes, downtown Detroit is cleaner and safer than I had expected it to be but it baffles me how anyone can give it a 5 star rating and leave no room to differentiate the downtown area from those of other cities. Large sections of downtown contain deserted... More

Downtown Detroit is a whole new animal. I love going downtown just to feel the energy of the city. There is a never-ending list of things you can do there, even if it's just to walk around, sit in campus martius, or sip a coffee by the river. It's beautiful at all times of the year!
