I recently took a work transfer to Detroit from South Africa. Before I moved, I read horrible reviews online and was quite nervous when I first arrived, but what I have seen does not correlate to the online reviews at all! Downtown is great fun, with a lot of restaurants and fun, exciting things to do. Its so sad that... More

This past weekend we took a trip to Detroit to discover what experiences it had to offer along with checking out the Red Wings vs. Canucks game on the Sunday. I have to say that expectations were exceeded. We had friends join us from the Detroit area, who have never experienced downtown Detroit as well. We took part in the... More

While the City's woes have been well chronicled, the downtown area is a hub of activity-lots of restaurants, bars and things to do, and quite safe as well.

As a Canadian visitor, wow... this place looks like a dump.. I would never want to live in the city and I don't know how others can. A word of advice for the locals, if you see a driver from another country or state, don't be a-holes and honk like you are on fire and dying a horrible death in... More

"Downtown" Detroit is Gr8. It has so,so much to offer, from Entertainment to Rrestaurants to Sporting Events and Casinos and River Walk along the Detroit river....it is quite nice. Opera House, Micro Breweries, Greek Town, the beautiful Fox theater and the new shops along Woodward. Mexican Village and Greektown offer some great ethnic choices and there an abundant choice of... Actually a beautiful town, not at all like I expected.. Lots of beautiful architecture both old and new. We walked all through the town and felt safe. There seems to be a lot to do here we just visited for a few hours. There were concerts, art shows, all kinds of things going on. There seemed to be a pride... More

I couldn't find a place to write about DHive/Experience Detroit (they are changing their name) specifically, so I will put it here. I signed up for a walking tour through their website. It lasts 2 hours, and is lead by a few members who spout off fun facts and history of the streets, buildings, statues, business, and downtown as a... More

"Downtown" Detroit is wonderful. The River Walk along the Detroit river is quite nice. Especially between Cobo and the Renaissance Center (Ren Cen). Opera House is alive and micro brews and a deep fried Twinkie are a great way to end the night across the street. The M5 project will bring easier access to the beautiful Fox theater and the... I only spent half a day in downtown Detroit this last trip, and that was more than enough time. The city is still empty from the recession, and it is very depressing that such a great American city seems abandoned.
