Hart Plaza is a 14 acre space, mostly concrete, that can accommodate around 40,000 people. Great place for summer festivals, concerts and events. It was named after the late US Senator Philip Hart. In its center you will find the futuristic Dodge Fountain designed by Noguchi on 1978. There is also a small amphitheater for concerts and plenty of space... More

Located near Detroit's beautiful Riverfront, Hart Plaza plays host to some of the cities biggest events including the free International Jazz Festival and Movement, Detroit's world-renowned Electronic Music Festival. In addition, there are several points of interest worth seeing here. The futuristic Dodge fountain and Pylon by Isamu Noguchi. The fountain is at it's best when it's running in the... More

This was once a thriving area of the D. I agree with the previous poster, the atmosphere AND safety depends on the event and type of people it draws. I didn't see even 1 police officer while we were there. I didn't feel safe.

This use to be a very nice area. However the last time I was there I noticed it was not being cared for like it use to be. Now it is starting to look neglected. Depending on the event and the people it attracts I may not be the safest location.

Was too hot!! But a nice place to visit. Love chasing the birds. Great view of the water and Canada. Great place to stroll and enjoy your stay in Detroit.

I saw on the local news that there would be a BBQ festival this weekend. I'm sorry to say it was AWFUL! Chili's has better ribs....really. And this food was SO over-priced. 4 bones of (old, hard) ribs for $15!! Hard, over-cooked, and tasted like crap. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY GOING HERE!!

The Plaza is not very big, but it is connected or near to the river walk, GM Building, Hockey Stadium, people mover, casinos, etc, so make sure you stroll through it when sightseeing. It may seem vacant and a little bit in disrepair if there is no special event, but take some time to learn about its history.

Hart Plaza was a great spot to launch the ELCA Youth Gathering Proclaim Justice Day. It accommodate 10,000 people a stage and portable bathrooms. We were able to easily walk to the GM Center to board our bus and go to work. It has a lovely fountain and the river view is amazing. Great place to relax a bit.

This is Detroit's (poor) attempt at a place for people to get together downtown for some cultural events. It is a nice enough venue, but the crowds are frequently unruly and a lot of petty crime goes on here. If you don't believe me, listen in to the police scanner on fireworks night. Too bad.

When I went it was very cold and the fountain wasn't on, so I hesitated at first to walk over. The water in the Detroit River was beautiful, electric blue and not something I would have expected to see in a city. There's also a statue at the river in memorial to all of the enslaved and free blacks who... More
