Tours listed for this non-profit group can be found at www.preservationdetroit.org. They offer a variety of tours and events throughout the year. My husband and I took the cultural center tour of downtown Detroit, and as other reviewers have commented, the tour was interesting and informative. We will definitely try another tour again. The tour lasted over 2 hours and... More

I took the cultural tour of Downtown Detroit where we strolled through the Detroit Public Library, the Scarab Club, the College of Creative Studies and a few more buildings and homes in the area. It was very interesting, the tour guide was very informative, and I officially have a new appreciation for the city of Detroit and its history. I... More

Not impressed at all with the Preservation Detroit Eastern Market Center tour. I went on this tour this morning and wow, was I disappointed. The tour guide is an old man who constantly clears his throat and says "anyways" a good 40 times throughout his boring commentary. It only lasts an hour but that is an hour too long for... More

Detroit Heritage Tours runs a number of tours of Detroit. We took the downtown architectural tour. It lasted 2 1/2 hours, so wear good shoes. The tour was excellent, the operator well informed, friendly, and interesting. I've lived in Detroit most of my life and was not aware of the many unique architectural styles and little pocket parks within the... More

Preservation Wayne has a great variety of tours. I've taken the Eastern Market tour several times, but my favorite was the Cultural Center tour. I thought I knew the Cultural Center until I took the tour! It's more than, "Here's the DIA, here's the library, etc." Instead, I learned in-depth about the history of Ferry Street and really was exposed... More

As a Metro-Detroiter, I see these buildings all the time, but these tours give me a piece of history I would never have known otherwise. Last weekend I did the Mid-Town tour, this weekend I'm going on the Eastern Market tour and then I'm doing the People Mover tour. Detroit is best appreciated when you understand the history of what... More

I recently took the architectural tour and loved it. We visited many historic downtown buildings and heard fascinating stories behind their construction. Among other things, we saw the lobby of the Guardian Building, which has to be seen to be believed. At the end, we went up to the roof of the Penobscot Building (550 feet up) - which is... More

I took one of the tours of downtown. Excellent tour, lots of interesting buildings that I didn't know of. The guide was pleasant, informed, and handled many questions well. Highly recommended. It gives a much better appreciation of the downtown buildings and how much money flowed into the city in the early 20th century.
