American Jewelry and Loan American Jewelry and Loan is owned by Leslie...

American Jewelry and Loan American Jewelry and Loan is owned by Leslie "Les" Gold, the son of a pawnbroker who once owned Sam's Loans, a now-defunct pawnshop on Michigan Avenue in Detroit. Les first opened American Jewelry at the Green Eight Shopping Center on 8 Mile Road in Oak Park in 1978, moving to its present location in 1993.The Gold family and the daily operations of the store are the subject of the truTV reality show 'Hardcore Pawn'. This flagship show has broken numerous audience records and recently celebrated its 100th episode. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the store still operates as a full-service pawn shop and that members of the Gold family are still heavily involved in the daily operations in the store despite their busy filming and appearance schedules.

Fun to See Where the TV Show is Based

We came by just to see the size, layout and "feel" of the store. It was worth the stop, but we did not choose to buy anything.

We stopped at American Jewelry because my sister lives in Detroit and we were in town visiting her. I figured it would be worth a stop to see what it looked like and to see if it looked like it does on the show. It is not in a bad section of town at all. Yes you do crossover 8... More

Upon entering was greeted, but that was the only time was acknowledged while in the store. Went to 3 different Jewelry counters and could not get waited on, NOT Busy! Had to flag down someone to assist us and then the person acted as if we were bothering them. No personality whatsoever to be dealing with the public. Typical Pawn... More

It was a bit surreal to walk into American Jewelry and Loan after enjoying the television show since it's beginning. It was as it is shown on television and had a steady flow of local customers with a few out of towners. My significant other and her Son who lives just outside of Detroit enjoyed the visit as well. There... More

Stopped in on our road trip through Detroit - hubby is still smiling from ear to ear because he got a photo with Les and Seth. I am not the avid fan that he is, but was a thrill to see, in real life, what we have seen on TV, and get to meet the actors who are real people.... More

This is the coolest pawn shop to visit when you are in Detroit. The family that owns this business are great. I met the owner Les and his son Seth and both were the nicest people you could meet. The daughter Ashely wasn't there and I would have loved to have met her, but the cousin was okay in her... More

If you like the show and you are in Detroit, you really must visit. Of course it's no where close to as crazed as portrayed on TV, but you get a shirt and walk around for a minute. If you are lucky, you get a photo with some of the folks from the show.

We stopped at American Jewelry and Loan in July 2015. We stopped to see the shop from the Hard Core Pawn TV show. We were not greeted as we entered and no one asks to help us after looking around for five minutes. We did see Bobby J and the huge security man but neither was interested in speaking to... More

Stopped in just to check the place out since we were in the area. Lucky it wasn't crowded as no filming was going on. We bought a couple things just because I like to haggle.

I deal with American Jewelry & Loan via mail order. The items on their web sight are just what you receive. There is no bait and switch you get what you buy. The service is fast, postage is paid for on most orders and you receive all items within days of your order. I got a copy of Les Gold... More
