Les first opened American Jewelry at the Green Eight Shopping Center on 8 Mile Road in Oak Park in 1978, moving to its present location in 1993.The Gold family and the daily operations of the store are the subject of the truTV reality show 'Hardcore Pawn'. This flagship show has broken numerous audience records and recently celebrated its 100th episode. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the store still operates as a full-service pawn shop and that members of the Gold family are still heavily involved in the daily operations in the store despite their busy filming and appearance schedules. « less

We have been wanting to visit since we started watching the show, finally we decided it was time! Everything was true to the show, even when my husband tried to negotiate with Les(we lost-LOL). It was fun to see Seth and Byron too!! Glad we went, I wanted to purchase something from this store but the prices were pretty high,... More

As fans of the show we wanted to check this place out. They were closed (Sunday) so we just got to snap a few photos of the outside.

It is a pawn shop as expected. Worth a visit if you are in the area like we were on a busy saturday afternoon. A large selection of jewelry and electronics. Place is the same as it looks on tv. Les and Seth were in the store and we got our picture taken with them. They were very friendly and... More

I have been to many reality television show locations. If you do not expect that the shows make places look larger and better that they are, then you do not understand television. This place was just like shown in the TV show. It was a Saturday afternoon and Seth was working. I did not expect any of the three to... More

While in Detroit I decided to stop In and check it out. Was shocked to find it much smaller than it appears on tv. The prices were in the high side. They were filming the day I was there and the scenes are definitely staged. It's nothing more than an ordinary pawn shop.

Drove up from Ohio today 2/15/14. Place is as it looks on TV. Took wife, daughter,& her high school friend. Les, & Seth were there, Ashley was off. Les, & Seth we're very willing to have their pictures taken with my daughter, and her friend. They were friendly, cordial, excellent business people. We spent a few dollars there, the whole... More

On a recent trip to Detroit, I stopped in with some business associates to see in person the place and characters that make up this truTV show. Obviously, this place doesn't hype up and lay to the cameras! They are truly as indignant, unfair, rude, spiteful, and greedy in person as they show on the tv series. It's a shame... More

I visited this store a couple of times and each time it seemed like there was nothing but junk. If I am going to pay the used prices they want it would be easier to pay extra and get it new. The gold and silver jewelry was a little on the high side for me but maybe someone else will... More
