Les first opened American Jewelry at the Green Eight Shopping Center on 8 Mile Road in Oak Park in 1978, moving to its present location in 1993.The Gold family and the daily operations of the store are the subject of the truTV reality show 'Hardcore Pawn'. This flagship show has broken numerous audience records and recently celebrated its 100th episode. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the store still operates as a full-service pawn shop and that members of the Gold family are still heavily involved in the daily operations in the store despite their busy filming and appearance schedules. « less

While in Detroit I decided to stop In and check it out. Was shocked to find it much smaller than it appears on tv. The prices were in the high side. They were filming the day I was there and the scenes are definitely staged. It's nothing more than an ordinary pawn shop.

Drove up from Ohio today 2/15/14. Place is as it looks on TV. Took wife, daughter,& her high school friend. Les, & Seth were there, Ashley was off. Les, & Seth we're very willing to have their pictures taken with my daughter, and her friend. They were friendly, cordial, excellent business people. We spent a few dollars there, the whole... More

On a recent trip to Detroit, I stopped in with some business associates to see in person the place and characters that make up this truTV show. Obviously, this place doesn't hype up and lay to the cameras! They are truly as indignant, unfair, rude, spiteful, and greedy in person as they show on the tv series. It's a shame... More

I visited this store a couple of times and each time it seemed like there was nothing but junk. If I am going to pay the used prices they want it would be easier to pay extra and get it new. The gold and silver jewelry was a little on the high side for me but maybe someone else will... More

Being a Detroit girl, of course I had to check out the action at American Jewelry and Loan, and it was exactly like you see it on TV. They were taping that day so it was fun to see all the action - and hopefully appear for a brief moment on the TV show :) Everyone was really nice and... More

Was here on business, so just HAD to go to this place after seeing so much of their Hard Core Pawn show. Yep, disappointed. WOW what television cameras can do with editing, angles, etc. The place was much smaller than I thought, the parking lot, which looks huge on the tube was small as well. Of course they spruce the... I knew it would be in a questionable area, but this is in a really bad area. I had a hard time leaving my car in the lot for more than 10 minutes. I felt secure enough inside though. The show makes it appear larger than what it really is. They did offer me an iPad for $200 so I... More
