Description: American Jewelry and Loan American Jewelry and Loan is owned by Leslie...
American Jewelry and Loan American Jewelry and Loan is owned by Leslie "Les" Gold, the son of a pawnbroker who once owned Sam's Loans, a now-defunct pawnshop on Michigan Avenue in Detroit. Les first opened American Jewelry at the Green Eight Shopping Center on 8 Mile Road in Oak Park in 1978, moving to its present location in 1993.The Gold family and the daily operations of the store are the subject of the truTV reality show 'Hardcore Pawn'. This flagship show has broken numerous audience records and recently celebrated its 100th episode. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the store still operates as a full-service pawn shop and that members of the Gold family are still heavily involved in the daily operations in the store despite their busy filming and appearance schedules.

Hmmm

My family wanted to see this place, which looks like every other pawn shop to me. If you're into it, you'll probably enjoy it

Worth a visit whether or not you've seen their TV show. Best if you are looking for jewelry. A little bargaining is in order. Free parking. Check store hours first. It appears to be a friendly place when they are not filming the show and tossing people out the door.

Found the premises in a pretty riundown part of Detroit, but where isn't in that city!! Both Les and Seth were bury in the back but promised to come out after 30 minutes for photos. We spent this time looking around the shop, not a massive place and we must have gone round it at least 4 times!! Most of... More

Love the show and don't live too far away from Detroit so have always wanted to stop in and take a look. The place is way smaller than expected. Based on the size their warehouse appears to be on TV, I expected a much bigger store. I literally walked around and saw everything within 5 minutes. Not much of a... More

Since I was in the area I had to come visit since I am a fan of the show. Unfortunately I didn't see Les or his children but the shop itself is cool, I bought some souvenirs for family and it was decently priced. It was smaller than I expected on the inside which caught me by surprise but there... More

We went there only because it's on TV "Hardcore Pawn" and my boys wanted to see it. It is not a safe part of town. If you go just to see it don't plan on being there long, between people looking at you because it's obvious you don't belong there and how small it is, you'll be in and out... More

See on TV so had to go check the place out. The staff was nice to us. We didn't see anyone getting out of control like on TV. There are pawn shops in flint that have a way better selection of items for sale. I dont care to go back to the D just for seeing what pawn shops are... More

Pawn stores aren’t known for being in the best of neighborhoods or having the classiest clientele, and American Jewelry and Loan doesn’t pretend to have either. This suits patriarchic owner Les Gold just fine. When a piece of trash loudmouth comes into his store, which seems to be every 5 minutes, Gold takes a “bring it on” posture and, ever... More

What you see on tv is pretty much what you see when you get their. Place is a little smaller than what the tv portrays but still interesting. We got lucky and Seth Ashley and Les were all their the day we went. They were filming when we first arrived. Ashley and Seth left for lunch shortly after we arrived... More
