Les first opened American Jewelry at the Green Eight Shopping Center on 8 Mile Road in Oak Park in 1978, moving to its present location in 1993.The Gold family and the daily operations of the store are the subject of the truTV reality show 'Hardcore Pawn'. This flagship show has broken numerous audience records and recently celebrated its 100th episode. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the store still operates as a full-service pawn shop and that members of the Gold family are still heavily involved in the daily operations in the store despite their busy filming and appearance schedules. « less

We went here to look at some rings on a Saturday afternoon... BIG MISTAKE. It was so crowded we couldn't even get near the jewelry counter, not to mention get somebody to actually help us... Most people were there because of the TV show and to browse but for people like us who were serious buyers wanting to look at... More

You could walk in there with the most expensive item on earth and ask for a reasonable amount knowing they need to make money too, and they lowball the hell out of you. I went there one time and this guy was trying to sell a gold necklace. It was real, and 18 kt gold. The guy asked for 500... More

I was excited to visit, but there were a lot of "low demand" items poorly merchandised. Found a couple of sports items that were unpriced and ask associate for the price, he asked me to make an offer, then laughed at my offer. Just price things at market value and there wouldn't be any confusion. Love the show though!!!

This is "reality TV". The owner and his family were there. They were taping the day I visited. They have excellent security. They were taping outside and objected to me taking a random photo which included some object they were looking at. (This was outside and none of the "cast" was present.) There was a line of people pawning stuff.... More

The Gold family are a fun bunch that loves to give back. The store has a wide variety of unique items and great jewelry. I try to drop in monthly.

My wife and I stopped by this place on a Saturday. Seth and Les were both there. We didn't speak to them, but Les was offering to be in pictures with other customers. Just know what you are getting into. The store is in a rough part of town. We stood out like a sore thumb - everyone in the... More

Was coming to town for game, so decided to check out this place, since I was looking for elec guitar, and my younger son and I are both fans. Nothing what I thought would look like. Was a Tuesday, and place was very quiet. Nobody behind the guitar counter. When I finally got help, the guy knew nothing about guitars.... More

Watch the show often and we were gonna be in town ( from Ohio) so we stopped off for a looksy. Got lucky, Les and Seth came out on the floor and I got a pic taken with them. Smaller store then what it appears on tv but it's exactly what you see. I even saw stuff I saw them... More

We have been wanting to visit since we started watching the show, finally we decided it was time! Everything was true to the show, even when my husband tried to negotiate with Les(we lost-LOL). It was fun to see Seth and Byron too!! Glad we went, I wanted to purchase something from this store but the prices were pretty high,... More

As fans of the show we wanted to check this place out. They were closed (Sunday) so we just got to snap a few photos of the outside.
