must see!!

This is an amazing building which looks like something out of an Indiana Jones movie. Golden high gates and some very artistic ceiling architecture. A definite must see.

Nice movie in the lobby to see before entering the main hall. There is nothing else like it in Detroit and I insist that every visitor that I take around the city visit this unique art deco building, both inside and outside. Look up at the top of the building to see the embellishment.

We toured the Guarding Building through Pure Detroit (see their Facebook page). Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgable. The building itself is a spectacular example of architecture and craftsmanship. One can only imagine banking there in it's heyday.

This building is well worth seeing for the stunning architecture. It only takes 10 mins or so to see it but if you're in the area it is well worth stopping in.

you've got to pop in and check out the lobby and the banking hall. It's absolutely gorgeous! Some of the best in Detroit. Too bad it's now the home to Wayne County offices. I hope they keep the building up. Highly recommended.

I make a point of visiting whenever Downtown. Drink coffee and, you can walk around and look at the cool stores and admire the architecture in this remarkable building.

This is a fascinating building inside.....back when the banks were trying to make the fanciest building they could to compete with the other banks to try to get customers....this is a feast for your eyes. You could easily spend an hour in here. Do not miss it!

This Art Deco building stands out in Detroit's financial district with its distinct-looking façade of brickwork, tile, limestone and terracotta. It was finished in 1929 and built to be a monument for the ages. You feel a sense of the pre-Depression optimism that must have inspired it. Outside it's easy the most beautiful building in the downtown area, and is... More

The Guardian Building, inside and out, represents the history of Detroit's heyday with regard to its fabulous architecture. Tiles from Pewabic Pottery, a world renowned pottery in Detroit, founded by Mary Chase Stratton who patented a shimmery glaze that is a signature of their tiles and pots. Some of the design reflects the history of the Native American culture. It... More

An Art Deco jewel smack-dab in the middle of downtown Detroit. Be sure to look up at the tilework on the outside of the building and then head inside to see the magnificent lobby, elevator lobby, mailbox, clock and light fixtures. Truly a magnificent example of Art Deco styling, with Detroit's own Pewabic tile and Rookwood tile installed. Not to... More
