Enjoyed a walk on the sand along the bay, lots of trails and wildlife to take in as well. Picnic area and camping available along with play area for children.
The park was easy to get to out of the city. We drove to the hiking areas to walk around for a while. The lagoon trail leads to the beach and some wooded areas. The beach was nice and I can't believe how low the water level is.Not good for swimming unless you go way out. The park was having... More
The camping was great! However when looking for a beach that is close forget it. I was with my friend who just had surgery and could not walk the mile back to the beach so we never went and was pretty bummed however kids loved the splash park.
Stayed 2 nights, had perfect weather, and enjoyed sense of space around our 50' x 50' site - nicely shaded by old trees all around. Unknown night birds / frogs / ??? sounds (being from west side of state), so I have to do some research now. Wish we'd have walked the trails - hadn't realized until after leaving this... More
We had a free afternoon after morning golf and wanted to visit a conservation or nature area, so we picked Bay City State Rec Area. It's a very nice park, with nice facilities, well marked trails with lots of info along the trails and a beautiful beach. The beach is beautiful, but unfortunately, the water is kinda gross - really... More
The visitor center is nice with some interesting displays. Pick up a map. We parked in the parking lot and decided to walk to the beach. I wish the walk to the beach wasn't so far but the beach is really nice once you get there.

Wonderful little state park right on the Saginaw Bay. Campground is very nice and clean with great campsites. Picnic area is very spacious and close to the water. Beach is well groomed and the sand is white and soft. Water is clear and great place for familys. There are tons of activities in the area. Golfing, fishing, small amusement park... More
don't come thinking you can use the beach because our town doesn't believe in taking care of it! They waste money on rail trails and saving the bird life, but really the beach looks awful go to Tawas or west side of the state I have lived here 50 years and in the last 25 years they have done nothing... I've lived here almost my entire life. When I was a child, the beach was wonderful. People would drive up from Detroit to camp and swim. In the last 30 years, it has turned in to muck and weeds. From my understanding, the muck is from the pesticides and fertilizer from the farmers in the thumb area. The weeds are... More
