A select exhibition of American Folk Art, focusing primarily on portraits is now on view. Many of the paintings or works in pastel are portraits of young children. The settings include early painted furniture, chairs, blanket chests and smaller boxes that echo the time these works were created. Definitely worth the trip to see this special collection.

"A gem of a museum" is a cliche that is used. I would use it, but it does not fully belie the world-class quality of this institution. The collection is on par with any of the great encyclopedic art museums of the world, just "without the redundancy". What sets WAM apart, IMO, is not necessarily new innovation is museology, installations,... More

Wonderful! So much to see, plan to spend a while. They also have a wonderful, very affordable art school that offers a wide range of classes. Go

Great day activity to do when you need a change of pace or scenery. They also added the Higgins Armory exhibit here as well. A guided tour is definitely the way to go if you require more then just the sights, but either way, worth a trip.

A great little museum in Worcester Massachusetts. Recently acquired a large part of the collection from Higgins Armory Museum which has claimed a large gallery in the museum proper. Great collections and special shows several times a year.

We initially went to see the medieval armor and were captivated by the art! Beautiful Greek and Egyptian art along with the biggest mosaic I have seen. All presented in a very interesting and non-hurried manner. Go with the kids! It is not too big to be overwhelming but big enough to be fun!! The receptionist asked if we had... More

We visited The Worcester Art Museum this afternoon. What a great place. It's small and not at all overwhelming. The exhibits are wonderful. When you go make sure to check out not the Higgins Armor exhibit and the examples of early American Furniture and Paul Revere Silver (up on the top floor). There was a person in almost every room... With some notable standing collections, including a stunning mosaic and a medieval chapel, WAM always has some intriguing new exhibits to share, too. We love the Higgins exhibits, which put arms and warfare both in historic and contemporary contexts. Kids love the interactive Knights! exhibit, where they can role play knighthood. The reMastered galleries put their artwork in a whole... More

We went to the Worcester Art Museum just for something to do on a Sunday afternoon and had pretty low expectations. Boy were we wrong. This was a GREAT museum. Beautiful neoclassic architecture building with world class art and exhibits. Loved this museum and will definitely be back.
