I grew up down the street and there is nothing like Bartholomew's Cobble. Good varied terrain for hiking, and the view at the top of the Vista is breathtaking. Must see if you're in Southern County.

One of the Trustees sites, this one will take you over hills, along watercourses, through fields and into valleys. Moderate/easy difficulty. It's a nice stop on your way to or from Great Barrington.

I am an avid hiker and there are so many up here in the Berkshires! One of my favorites is Hurlburts Hill @ Bartholomews Cobble in Sheffield,MA. It is a quick, exhilarating hike to the top of one of the sweetest panoramic views up the valley! I enjoy bringing my guitar up there and singing at the top of the... More

A cobble, in this part of New England, is a limestone outcropping. Cobbles can be larger or smaller: this one is larger. It juts out into the Housatonic river and features a number of hiking trails, none of which is very challenging, although in rainy or icy weather you have to be a little careful. But all of them are... More

We were really excited to come here and see the cobble that looks amazing from pictures. The guy at the info was very nice, helpful, gave recommendations of which path to hike on (5.5 year old and 1.5 who doesn't like to sit in his stroller...). Could have been beautiful if it weren't for the insane mosquitoes...I wish we had... More

I spent an afternoon here recently with kids ranging from 2 to 9 years old and two adults. The Cobble is a favorite from my childhood and ideal for a relaxed hike with great river views and wildlife sightings. Bring a picnic and let time slip away. Bring suncreen! Once you hike away from the cobble, you are in some... More

Great easy enjoyable hike. Beautiful scenic viesta. We saw a bunch of tree swallows in the meadow....really cool. The ferns were everywhere...all different kinds.

We walked round the Ledges trail which circles the Cobble's marble cliffs, frilled with ferns. Through the trees you can see the Housatonic and beyond it farmer's fields and the Berkshire hills. For us oldsters, the walk was gentle and full of simple delight. There were a multitude of wild plants, birds and a handful of scurrying chipmunks. There was... More

My husband and I hiked at the Cobble today. Easy to find. Ample parking. The trails are well marked and maintained. There are a number of trails on the property. We started by climbing Hurbutt Hill with a scenic vista at the top....well worth the climb although it is not strenuous but a bit hot since a good part of... More

This is a very unique geological site where the cobble creates habitat for a wide range of unusual ferns. This is one of two properties just north of CT line which is managed by Trustees of the Reservations. Woodland trails, an historic home from 1700's and opportunities to take guided walks, canoe trips and just quiet strolls make this idea... More
