My daughter lived in an apartment with a clear view of the Motif. It truly is a wonderful, peaceful experience to just sit on the harbor wall and take in this lovely view. There are paintings and photographs all over Rockport for visitors to buy and bring home. A wonderful memory from Rockport, Ma

"the most often-painted building in America"..., I would not have believed it had I not experienced it - I was in Rockport for 6 days and on my very early morning walks I found myself looking for different angles to look at this building in anticipation of the position of the sun changing its look. Trust me - get to... More

There's a reason everyone likes to paint and photograph this. For more information on the history, check out the wikipedia entry.

This is supposedly one of the most photographed buildings. I'm not sure if that's true, but I took a picture!!

Motif Number 1 gets its name from its repetitive use as a subject of paintings and photography by the artist colony and tourists. Somehow, it never becomes cliche no matter how many times it is used in photos and paintings from several different views. Go view it and photograph it from different angles. It is an iconic sight of Rockport.... More

Chance to take some good pictures. Try different angles and settings. Have fun. Closer shots can be taken off Main St. on Bearskin Neck.

The whole business of this being the most photographed/painted by artists, building in America - is that really true?? How can anyone prove that?? Well, whatever, but for sure it is extremely quaint and charming, lovingly maintained by the town of Rockport. I love the lobster buoys on it, and it's identifiable color. You can't go inside it, or even... More

Quaint red barn on a dock but because of the location, angle of views I can see why it's become the perfect object to paint ~ we mid - westerners enjoy the beauty of the Rockport Harbor and took numerous photos, wish we had more time to peruse the entire area, looked interesting with the shops and restaurants.

This was a return trip to Rockport Harbor after visiting several years ago. It's a beautiful setting, fun to see lobster shack Motif Number 1 and the lobster traps and variety of boats. This is a tourist attraction with lots of shops around the harbor but is also a actual working harbor. A clear, sunny day makes for really good... More
