Motif Number 1 is located on Bearskin neck at the end of a wharf right at the beginning of the harbour of Rockport. It is one of the most painted and photographed places on the east coast. There are boats on the water and lobster traps snuggled around it.On a bright sunny day there is nothing like the view of... More

Lovely, famous and popular scenic spot that adds fame and popularity to Rockport. Read all about it in L. M. Vincent's book "In Search of Motif No. 1: The History of a Fish Shack"

How many countless artists have depicted this red building situated in the heart of Rockport? With good reason as it truly is one of the most picturesque areas on the east coast. The building itself is pretty much just used for commercial fishing, but you can't go to Rockport and not snap a picture (or more) when you see it.

Even locals like to photography Motif Number 1. I agree with others - early in the morning or at sunset is best. The lighting is just right and crows are low. I also encourage visiting in the winter. The brilliant blue of the water contrasted against white show and blue sky makes for an amazing photo opportunity. However, if you... More

Go first thing in the morning when you'll have this iconic building all to yourself. Your pictures will turn out amazing and you can park right by it. It's really just a weathered red fisherman's shack but it has long been a favorite of artists and photographers because it's downright charming. The little port and sea are breathtaking on a... Couldn't take enough pictures of this place. It's beautiful and quiet, especially in the early morning hours. Not only did we find the Motiff a great building to shot, there were lot's of boats and plenty of seagulls and loons.

No dislikes. An interesting and famous building in Rockport that at one time (and maybe still is) used for storage for the lobstermens' traps.

You can't come to Rockport and not photograph the famous Motif #1. Walk over and read its history on the side of the building.
