Boat trip was nice-people were friendly. I know that the whales don't appear on command but I was disappointed. I was on the right side of the boat and most sightings were on the left. Although they turned the boat, I missed most of the better sightings. No fin pictures. They mostly came out and went back down close to... More

My father and I took a trip with Captain John's last October to see whales out at Stellwagen bank. The weather was perfect, with very calm waters. We saw lots of humpback whales and one whale of which no one knew, including the naturalist on board, what species it was. We also saw kittiwakes diving into the water. Quite the... More

The water was very rough, but so worth it. Take your sea sickness meds or some Ginger tablets and hold on! We have gone whale watching in Australia, Alaska, Antarctica, but we have never seen so many whales in one spot. The amount of whales and the range of behaviour made the trip worthwhile. We had fins slapping, breaching, tail... More

We went with Captain John Boats for a trip to Provincetown several weeks ago. Through a Groupon, we opted to buy tickets for their whale watching tours too, since the time of year we had available to go was just before the whales would leave the area for the winter. Well, we weren't disappointed! We saw several pods of whales... More

We all know that whale watching cruises can be unpredictable. As such, I tried not to get my hopes too high. Even if you do see whales, sometimes they're way off in the distance, and the best you can do is enjoy them with binoculars. Not this trip. There were 4-6 cows and calves surrounding our boat for nearly an... More

The naturalist on Captain John Boats were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about whales and marine life. It was nice that a staff person took photos of the whales because for a novice, photographing the whales was challenging, but to put 440 photos on a jumpdrive and charge $20 was a bit over the top. The weather was windy and the... More

This was my first whale watch and I was not disappointed. Didn't know what to expect. Thought I would see one or maybe two whales. I was blown away by the "show" the whales put on for us. It far exceeded my expectations!! Will definitely do it again. The crew was fabulous. The naturalist was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I... More

I know that it can never be assured that whales can be seen on these trips, but the crew did everything possible to see that we did. We were not disappointed. We had some great views quite close to the boat. It was awesome. The sea was a little choppy so young children and elderly people might need to take... More

Awesome. The water was choppy, so a lot of people got sick on the boat; but the crew gave fair warning, offered motion sickness pills (free of charge) and offered reschedule. I chose to brave it and survived. Also saw several whales exactly where the crew said we would see some. The weather was perfect and the crew were very... More

This tour was amazing! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the environment and the history of the area. The boat ride to the whale sighting site was about an hour. We then spent two hours watching whales swim and play. I say play, because they were entertaining us and hanging around or boat for quite a while. We saw... More
