The Church of the Transfiguration is the center of Community of Jesus - an ecumenical Benedictine monastic community located at Rock Harbor on the shores of Cape Cod Bay. The Community follows a daily rhythm of prayer including Eucharist and Liturgy of the Hours (sung in Gregorian chant). Constructed of Minnesota limestone, and designed by William Rawn Associates of Boston, the Church of the Transfiguration is a contemporary expression of an ancient 4th century style of architecture, and recounts the story of salvation through mosaic and fresco images, bronze, glass, and stone sculpture. The organ is a restoration and expansion of pipework from twelve organs built by the E.M. Skinner Organ Company in the early 20th century. Sunday Eucharist -- 10:00 Weekday Vespers -- 5:30pm Saturday Choral Evensong or Vespers -- 5:15pm TOURS -- Monday - Saturday at 3:00pm Organ demonstrations -- Fridays at 3:30pm Priory Books & Gifts -- Monday - Saturday 10am - 6pm(Wednesdays the Church is closed)

After reading a few reviews on Trip Advisor we decided to visit the Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans. We had high expectations and I can honestly say - you must stop by and visit. Everyone we met had a smile on their face - and it was extremely hot that day. We had a private tour and learned the... More

The Church of the Transfiguration is a Christian community in the Benedictine monastic tradition that welcomes visitors with open arms. The Church building itself is a contemporary expression of an ancient fourth-century style of architecture. It is a contemporary expression of an ancient basilican form, first used by the Romans, and later adopted by the earliest Christians. Constructed of Minnesota... More

Great location in Rock Harbor, Orleans, MA, gorgeous limestone architecture, lovely mosaics. They offer guided tours, their concerts and plays are exceptional, much of these performed outdoors in a stunning courtyard, or in the beautifully appointed church interior. It is nice to just walk the grounds and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. They offer half hour organ concerts which should not... More

A friend recommended visiting this church while we were visiting Cape Cod. It's a bit out of the way but worth the trip. The floor tile art is a bit different then most artistic displays in cathedral style churches which was very interesting. The frescoes were very well done. The art I found most impressive was in the side chapel... More

This is a gem in the middle of nowhere cape cod near Orleans. This is what one would imagine St Pauls looked like 5 years after it was finished. It is a must see but basically for adults only. Children would not appreciate it and would break the mood.

The architecture, materials used to build the sanctuary and the works of art, including mosaics, frescoes, music and iconography are breathtaking. I have never been in a sanctuary like this. They have tours several times a week, but I would recommend going to the Sunday Morning service at 10 and follow it up a tour. It is worth the visit.
