After growing up going to the Flying Horses, it is sad to see the owners exploit the carousel's historical status and turn it into an "anything for a buck" attraction. They have included a room to attract any yung child with video games, etc. Meanwhile you can not save a child's place in line? So if you have an active... more

This is not a ride for thrills and excitement. It is a step back in history. The horses have real horsehair and real stirrups, not the plastic stuff of today. There is a lot of history regarding the Carousel. When the summer residents of Martha's vineyard would return after the winter, it would open on Easter Sunday just so they... more

A simple and lovely attraction to start or end a day in Oak Bluffs with and treat the kids. Our youngest boy loved it when he was 5. Our oldest enjoyed the game room, as did we. more

Well visiting Marthas Vineyard, you must make it a point to stop in on this attraction for kids and adults alike. This is the oldest carousel in America and is a true antique that needs to be ridden. It is old but well maintained including the brass ring game. It is only a dollar fifty a ride and truly remarkable... more

I think this is a must-see for anyone interested in the history OR in a quaint ride on a really "old-school" carousel. I know parents and grandparents still coming to MV that enjoy taking their kids (and grandkids) to go. It may be the highlight of your child's trip for only a year or two but it will always be... more

Other than pretty pics you probably have seen, the carousel is not really impressive at all when you see it real other than the fact that it is real old Vic antique. Well, it is only run for summer visitors, not for the year rounders, so, a shallow deal. In the shabby honky tonk town (Oak Bluffs) during summer nights,... more

Step back in time to the flying horses. You can even win an extra ride by catching a brass ring. This is what the Vineyard is all about, returning to a simpler time--reading books, playing board games, riding an old fashion Carousel, and eating an ice cream cone. more

This was quite disappointing when we first saw it - very small and the horses don't go up and down. It's quite a fun thing and worth a look as it's the oldest carousel in the US. The main attraction is trying to grab yourself a gold ring as you go round, which entitles you to a free ride. Most... more
