Not large, but an interesting place to visit, with an historical perspective and a beautiful spot to sit and look at the bay

Marblehead is one of five places that lay claim to being the birth place of the Navy. Fort Sewall, formerly an armed fort owned by the United States and used to defend against British invaders, is now a beautiful park in Marblehead with magnificent views of the Harbor.

Fort Sewall is history--and to stand and watch the sun rise over the ocean was spectacular. A quiet walk, a place to sit, to think about the early history of our country, to watch the joggers and walkers or to chat with a local--great site.

Great story. Check it out when you get there. The fort protected the USS Constitution from the British fleet. Old Ironsides still returns to Marblehead on it's mandatory voyages.

This fort & rocky beach around the corner were frequent walk sites when we vacationed on Marblehead for a week in late August. The views are beautiful & ever changing with high & low tides. Just as importantly, the locals that live in Marblehead & come to the sea wall to see sun rise & set or just let their... More

Very nice park with amazing history....you can see into the kitchen of the old fort....wish you could see the dungeon! Nice benches around to sit and watch the boats & water!

This is a great place to wake up to. I would recommend coming here very early in the morning to watch the sun rise! Don't forget to bring your camera (and tripod)!

The fort is nothing exciting at all, you are not allowed in but can look into the windows. However, the Harbor is beautiful so it is worth going there just for the beauty of the area.

We came to this area searching for a beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic and Fort Sewall just seemed like the perfect place to find one. We arrived about 5:45 a.m. and within about 5 minutes were treated to an absolutely stunning sunrise. It was worth getting out of bed that early just for the opportunity to see it.

I walked around the fort and surrounding area. Beautiful little coves. Benches to sit and enjoy the view. The local people were very friendly. Lots of history and great photo opportunities.
