In terms of the size, this is the largest ski area, which is accessible from the western part of the greater Hartford area within an hour drive. Also, this ski area offers very reasonably priced tickets on weekdays, you get a little bit more than twice the size for less than half the price. Even on the weekend it is... More

We are a family of four mostly all starter skiers. My husband was able to do a couple of trails and use lifts. My kids were signed up for classes as well. Richard who does group lessons for adults was so kind and patient with me.

We went snow tubing with my 4 year old and he loved it! It's super easy to do, he learned the concept of ski lifts by using the running carpet (like the ones on the airport just without handrails), while bringing his tube up. Be prepared you will go faster and further down if you are a grown up ;)... More

Have been coming here for almost 30 years. Small mountain but great snow, great trails, rarely icy (better than most east coast locales south of Vermont) Lift ticket prices midweek can't be beat at $25. Family loves this mountain because it is so easy to ski here, park close, lodge is right by lift, can sit and watch your kids... More

Not a big mountain BUT, the trails are very well groomed, the snow making is the best and the prices can't be beat. Everything about the service at Butternut is the best. Buy a season's pass in the late fall and save a pile of money. Great for beginners and intermediate. If you live in Western Connecticut it's a short... More

It all depends on what you are looking for and what your expectations are. While this is no VT mountain, it is also no CT hill. A good day trip from southern CT.

One of the most convenient ski resorts near southern New England. If you don't enjoy driving to New Hampshire, this place is a suitable alternative. The trails are well maintained and there are nice lodges. Perfect for beginners who want to take lessons because the staff here is friendly. An amazing experience. Downside is, the mountain is very small and... More

Ski Butternut is a nice run ski area in the Bershires Mountains. You can't beat the week day ski all day for $ 25.00. $ 20.00 for seniors over 70 plus. They also do a nice job on grooming the snow. Don't go there with expectations that this is any where near the size of Killington Vt.

For the price, you really can't do much better than Butternut. Though we hadn't had any recent snow, the snow-making and grooming were superb. I can't speak to the weekends or the crowds, but we went on a Friday and never encountered a line. The lodge was pretty crowded around lunchtime but had plenty of options (don't expect gourmet, though,... More
