I do not want to make it sound like it is backwards. The area is nice well kept and the people very friendly. As we walked and drove the area and stopped at different places you could easily place your time back to last year or 100. Makes you feel good to know history is not being replaced everywhere.

Even on a bitterly cold day in January, Main Street was a fun three-block or so stroll. Lots of unique shops, including boutiques, antiques and used books, mixed with restaurants and cafes. My favorite stop was Local Colors, an artists co-op with only hand-crafted items, a perfect antidote to the ordinary big box discount store. Reasonably priced metered parking on... More

A walk down Main Street gives you that old fashion downtown feel. You can buy wool socks or other fisherman's gear at Nelsons, gourmet cheese and wine at The Cave, antiques and old books at several shops, and find lots of little gift shops of all varieties. Lots of great restaurants so plan to have lunch or dinner.

if you're looking for a chain, forget-it! Independent bookstores (at least 2), artisan shops, second hand shops, great kids clothes store, shoe stores, restaurants, record shop.

I love visiting Cape Ann, home to Gloucester and Rockport. Main St. Gloucester has a cool antique and collectable shop, some clothing stores, just a little bit of everything. It's a fun street to walk down on a leisurely stroll.

There are not a lot of shops that I saw. I would recommend parking right in front of the Local Colors Art Gallery (which is very cool by the way) and the walking south on Main until you get to the music shop and then come back up the other side. This seemed to be the only section that had... More

On a warm Sunday afternoon in August, we were able to get a metered parking space on Main St. Since it was Sunday, parking was free. There is a wide variety of shops, gallery type stores and and small coffee shops and restaurants. I especially like the Village Silversmith (one of 8 locations the family owns north of Boston) which... More
