On July fourth the cannon at this fort gruarding the eastern side of the channel into New Bedfors harbor boom a salute to the country. The view looks south across Buzzards Bay to the Elizabeth Islands. On a clear day you can see Gay Head at the western end of Martha's Vineyard. Looking west is New Bedford, the fishing vessels... Kinda small and the beach is covered in shells, you must wear shoes. The breeze was amazing and refreshing. Nice grassy area if you don't want to sit in the sand. Volleyball area and picnic shelter.

Great place for a summer day and get to see the ocean and look for wheels. Greta beach and plenty of parking. Good place for the kids to run and play. Watch the fishing boats go thru the dyke as they head out to fish. You can also watch the lobster fisherman collect their traps. Have a picnic on the... More

We had not visited Ft. Phoenix State Reservation for 20 yrs. We were surprised and how much the facility has maintained it's original shape. There is a little there for everyone...great beach..playground for kids..lifeguards..and even some local entertainment at the gazebo on occasion but the feature that appealed to us was the option of solitude if you want it. The... More

The site of the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War, this park is perched on the New Bedford/Fairhaven harbor with beautiful views of the water and the sunset. The British in search of supplies sent frigates to Fairhaven from Boston and found themselves surprised by local fishermen who emerged as the winners of the first naval batte of the... More

Refreshing walk along the top of a dike built in 1960s to protect the New Bedford and Fairhaven harbors and surrounding area. Fort Phoenix story was interesting and nicely presented. Lots of parking, great water views, sea air, picnicking and trail walking.

Fort Pheonix is a great place to visit...go for a walk on the hurricane barrier, stroll the beach or sunbath and climb the cannons which use to protect the city against invaders. There are information boards at various locations in the fort. It's also a nice lookout point to watch the fishing vessels come and go in the port and... More

Love this place where the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War was fought just off the coast. Great place to bring some food and enjoy the view of fishing vessels heading out to sea or returning with their catch.

A very old fort that protected the city of New Bedford, and the town of Fairhaven. It is right on the water and you are free to roam around at one's leisure
