South beach was great! Lots of family time, relaxing,& fun. We bought the day pass for the truck and drove on the beach, best day on the vineyard so far.

The thrill of the ocean, the crash of the surf, the joy of families and friends relaxing! For body surfing, for seal watching, for endless Summer fun - this is the place to be!

This was a great beach for all - good sized but swimmable waves on the day we visited in July. Not overly crowded. Portable restrooms were immaculate. And very easy ride on the MV shuttle with a short walk from the shuttle drop off to the beach. Would recommend!

An excellent beach. Much more populated than most others. Have changing rooms, but carry your own food. Good for a swim or playing beach games.

We took our kids (11 an 12) to State Beach (on the eastern, Nantucket Sound side of the island) for some calm, swimming water and the infamous "Jaws Bridge", but South Beach (on the southern, Atlantic Ocean end pf the island) was the place recommended for body-surfing, boogey boarding and basically big-wave jumping. Luckily the day we went the surf... More

June was a great time to go. Not too crowded yet. One of the few beaches with rest room. Nice sand and small waves. Can walk forever. Bring what you need.

South Beach is super nice - clean with good, soft sand. It can get crowded, but it's a long beach and there is always plenty of room. The surf can get rough for the little ones and the life guards are non-existent - literally or figuratively - we couldn't find any - so keep a close eye on your babies.... More

Perhaps when the season opens there are curtains for the changing rooms. Early in the season there are not. The way the changing building is set up you can see right through the wooden slots. That proved exciting the last time I went. Also there are no outhouses early in the season. I didn't think the water was real cold... More

A nice private and secluded beach to spend the day. Hope the #8 bus from Edgartown and leave the car behind. They even let you look for lost WW2 ammunition buried in the dunes. Think about stoping by the Right Fork restaurant before hitting the beach for a great lunch or breakfast.
