The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

New Year's Eve 2016 was a wonderful evening in Edgartown as we watched fireworks from in front of the Edgartown Lighthouse. What a wonderful view of the harbor as colors exploded in the sky to signal the coming of the New Year. Everywhere around us were people enjoying the holiday without the usual drunken cacophony and hullabaloo—families, romantic couples, celebrators... More

This was my first lighthouse! The first one I had seen up close and it happened to be right outside our hotel, The Harbor View. I wish we were able to go inside and see it, but it's quite picturesque. We took a lot of photos here and it was one of my favorite stops on our holiday on the... More

I love the view and the fresh air. Our walks just to be closer to this site is truly worth it. We decided to relax here to revive our strength since it is facing the sea and it is indeed relaxing and silent.

Beautiful place, it was decorated with lights for Christmas! The view of the lighthouse at night is truly breathtaking.

Of the 5 lighthouses on Martha's Vineyard, I believe the Edgartown lighthouse is the most picturesque. It is only a short walk from the side of the road and is located across the street from the Harbor View Hotel. The Edgartown lighthouse is only a short distance from downtown Edgartown. A must-see tourist attraction.

A short walk out of Edgartown through sand will bring you to this Lighthouse. It looked a bit neglected when we were there but we had a nice walk along the beach none the less. There was no access to the lighthouse when we were there since it's open seasonally only. Great location with scenic background, but have seen better.

Drove to all the lighthouses on the Vineyard. Everywhere you go is an Oceanside view We went to the beach where they filmed Jaws and jumped off the Jaws Bridge but you have to be careful you can get caught up in the currents

At this sight you over look all of Edgartown, and its harbor. If you get lucky in the fall you might see false albacore attacking bait balls. This light house is open on weekends, and run by a pretty girl hiding behind her phone. You pay her ten dollars an adult and five a child. I would not recommend a... More

The lighthouse is gorgeous, an when you get up close its even more beautiful given the reason. I would be interested in seeing if it's able to be entered. Maybe because it's off season but I was unable to go inside.

Located at the far end of Water Street. The lighthouse is in front of the Harbor View hotel. Water Street is one way heading out of Edgartown. There are a few parking places in front of the hotel. You can walk down to the lighthouse on a gently descending path through the park. The lighthouse is open in the summer... More
