Only takes about 30+ minutes to do a self guided walk through the whole garden. Very interesting collection of shrubs, plants, rock gardens and water features, all for free, although a donation is recommended. Definitely worth a stop! Catch Mytoi gardens on your way to seeing the Ted Kennedy Chappaquiddick bridge which is less than a mile down Dike Road... More

Mytoi has been a blessed place of retreat ever since neighbor/donor Mary Wakeman set it aside to create a Japanese garden on Chappaquiddick -- and ultimately donated it to the Trustees of Reservations for the public to enjoy. When our children were tiny and growing up in Edgartown, Mary invited the whole community to Easter egg hunts on her property.... More

Take the ferry to Chappy and head to East Beach and the Dike Bridge, an area made famous by Ted Kennedy. Mytoi is on the left. A classic American rendition of a Japanese garden with wonderful specimens, wonderful vistas and wonderful chi. Enjoy the peace and quiet and feel the solitude and balance of this nicely constructed garden. Kudos to... More

If you on Chappy you must stop (since Chappy doesn't have too much else). This peaceful spot has a few excellent spots to sit and enjoy the moment. We spent about 45 minutes here, but it could be more of less depending on how long you want to enjoy the silence. There were not many people there and it is... More

Mytoi Japanese Gardens, a serene garden of green beauty. Only way to get here is by a 30 second ferry ride from Edgartown, MA. Once off the ferry, it's a 10 minute drive to the gardens. There is no charge for admission and there are large snapping turtles and fish to look at. Also the trees and plants are best... More

We travel to Martha's Vineyard every year but hadn't been over the ferry to Chappaquiddick. We saw that Mytoi was a popular destination so thought we would give it a try. Beyond being a beautiful garden, there is also a salt marsh trail with views out to the ocean. Mytoi is also a base for The Trustees of Reservations, which... More

Mytoi is a Japanese Garden tucked away on Chappaquidick Island in Edgartown. While two of my group felt that the experience would be made more enjoyable by tagging to identify the lush growth in the garden, the other member of our group felt not having identification made it more serene. An ideal place for meditation.

We missed the last tour (3pm) by 5 minutes. They apparently don't allow anyone to join late. But we walked around the garden which is lovely. It is not very big so you can walk through and see everything pretty quickly if you are pressed for time.

We had a wonderful visit at the gardens and also had the pleasure to go on the Poge Lighthouse tour - also run by Trustees of Reservations. This is tour in an open truck that travels out over the sand to the Lighthouse. We had a wonderful guide who talked about all the history and also showed us a lot... More

As Japanese gardens go this one is about average- I've seen many others that are more elaborate, but this was a beautiful serene surprise on a hot day, offering a welcome shady retreat with many beautiful specimens. Worth the little ferry across to Chappaquiddick. If I had more time I would have taken the tour jeep up to the lighthouse... More
