trip down memory lane

I spend many summers in Charlemont as a child. This store was our go to place and always smiling face to greet you.

They really do have everything you need (including the kitchen sink), and the service is the best. Plumbing problem? Electric fence? Painting a room? They can help you figure out exactly what you need for pretty much any situation. Their food selection is good, too, with meat they will cut to order, vegetables, and lots of locally sourced goods. The... More

Avery's is a trip to a bygone era. It is the classic small town general store that you would expect to find in Mayberry. It's not a kitchy nouveau nuts and granola "shoppe", it is an honest "if you need it, we got it" combination of grocery, hardware, sporting goods, work clothes and home goods stores crammed into a single... The sevice here is the best. Prices are always close or below market price. It's been a life saver many times when I have needed something and not wanted to drive out of town.

A hardware store, a butcher, a minimart and a friendly place to hang out. What more do you want in a town of 1000? The meat is extraordinary and almost every imaginable hardware need can be met. Besides, Karin, Dennis and all the employees will go out of their way for you. I should know, I'm in the store twice... More

Love Avery's store and it's true, "if Avery's doesn't have it you don't need it". Contrary to a previous posting, the store is still open and is a vital part of the community. In fact, I am just getting ready to go there now to buy a few groceries before the big storm! Don't miss this great treasure where you... More

We always looked forward to this part of our trip. It's a great general store. We started a collection of farm animals, buying one at each visit ,to remember our trips.

Large stores should take notes on the efficiency and use of every sq" of usable space. I was visiting Charlemont, Massachusetts for two weeks and found that had nearly everything I needed including Tri-tip steak. I even put in an order for real Maple Syrup from a family member's nearby farm. The bad news is that they closed their store... More
