The idea of the canal started in the 1600's and was not feasible for another 200 years. Beautiful shoreline. A boon to ships who were subject to storms and heavy seas around the Cape and an engineering marvel for marine ,railroad and automobile travel. The MMA is also at the entrance from Buzzards BAY.(Massachusetts Maritime Academy), Great fishing too. We... More

I was unaware of the history and existence of the Cape Cod Canal. I found it fascinating and would love to return with my family and bicycles! The bridges, construction, geography and history are superbly explained at the Cape Cod Canal Visitors Centre at the eastern end of the canal (in Sandwich). The area is relaxed (at least on a... Going over the bridge gives you an interesting view and puts another piece into the overall feel of the Cape

Just came back from the 3 hour cruise. The narrator, Steve, spoke for two hours providing interesting information along the entire length of the canal. I never found it to be uninteresting. Parking in Onset was right at the boat dock, a beautiful day and a wonderful cruise.I don't know why I've waited so long to go.

Nice fun place, always a nice walk. Be care of bikers, some think they have the right of way but most are good. Great seeing the boats go by. Always fun to stop by for a look.

This place reminds me of lazy days when the sun is shining and the breeze cools me down. It is a great place to unwind and sit by the canal. It is a beautiful walking/biking/running stretch where lots of people bring their dogs too. There are umpteen benches to sit down and watch the ships go by. It is so... More

We love bringing our grandkids on the bike trails. The Cape side usually has less traffic on the path if you are going for your first time. We taught the kids to say "on your left" before passing walkers and one of our granddaughters was a riot to hear. We have brought our sailboat through the canal many times and... More

The bike path runs on both sides of the canal for 7.5 miles, passing under the Bourne and Sagamore bridges. There are lots of stopping points and benches if you need a break, and the scenery if beautiful. This is a very good place for biking, rollerblading, walking, or running, and very well maintained. There are restrooms at either end... More

Take this walk! Park your car in Bourne near the rail road bridge, and WALK! Take your camera and spare batteries and capture all the boats traveling the canal, the bridge spans, the swirling water, and everyone fishing!
