While visiting in the Frederick, Maryland area, we saw the brochure for this Railroad Train Ride, in Walkersville, MD, only a short drive out of Frederick. Note: This Railroad does not open for Train Rides everyday, they have a day and time schedule and it is limited. However, they do advertise about having Dinner Train Rides and other events from... We were the last ones still exploring the train that day when the engineer came up and asked my 4 year old son what he wanted to be when he grew up. His reply, "a train driver". He then invited us to join him in returning the train back to the shed! The look on my child's face was one... More

I haven't taken the Ride as yet but the train depot is near my home so I hear the whistle blow. It sounds like the past, it sounds like mystery and romance. We bought tickets for our grandson to ride with Santa last year, what fun. This year I will go too and chug along to the sound of children... More

Our group of 32 arranged for an hour-long trip south from Walkersville, MD, on a warm, sunny afternoon. The open air rail cars were great fun and provided a woodsy view into the Frederick County countryside. Our conductor provided helpful narrative regarding the train and the lovely views. The employees/volunteers who took care of our group were "over-the-top" friendly and... More

We were two adults and and two kids, 5 and 2.The fare was quite reasonable, only $40 for all four. My son and the two grandchildren had been on the train before, but they seemed to be enjoying from the start. The train was pulled by a diesel engine, and we sat in an open wagon. The staff, I was... The Walkersville Southern Railroad is an all-volunteer operation that runs from Walkersville, Maryland to the outskirts of Frederick, about 6 1/2 miles one way. The railroad has a variety of early diesel engines, although we rode a steam train that had been borrowed from an owner in Indiana and trucked in. There is a nicely restored station, a small museum,... More

Wonderful atmosphere and great food. The staff were extremely pleasant and easy to talk to, fellow passengers enjoyed the evening as well so the entire experience was very positive. The food from The Carriage House (Emmitsburg, MD) was delicious and each course was served in perfect timing to the last. We were greeted and seated on time, they took the... More

We had the pleasure of dinner on the train this evening, it was quaint, charming and the food was surprisingly delicious. The train ride was slow and comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised to find a well apportioned dining car. Dinner is byob and our train rain for about two and half hours. The service was great and all our expectations... More

The train was overbooked when we got there, so they put us in the caboose, which was actually better than the regular deal! The employees were very friendly, the Easter Bunny made his rounds, we got to sit in the top seats of the caboose. It was a pleasant 2 hours. Funny though, pay $45 to ride a train at... More

This was gift from my Son & Daughter-in-Law to have a special dinner on the train. It was a snowy evening and we boarded the dining car to sit down to a lovely table decorated in red and white with a cheese and fruit platter for us to share. You bring your own wine or cocktails and we did bring... More
