The Hooper Strait Lighthouse was retired and came to the museum as one of its first major exhibits. It gives great insight into the harsh, lonely life of a keeper in the 19th century and the self-guided tour allows the visitor(including children) to explore from top to bottom. There is a good view of the Miles River and St Michaels... More

My great-grandparents were lighthouse keepers so we always look for opportunities to check out a lighthouse. What's unique about this lighthouse? It is like a living history museum, filled with the everyday objects the keepers needed and used when it was still a working lighthouse. A great experience.

We didn't go inside this lighthouse. If you pay admission to the Chesapeake Maritime museum, this lighthouse entry is included with admission. However, we got there at 4:45pm when closing was 5pm. After 5pm, you can walk up to the lighthouse and take pictures for free. There is a gift shop there that has some nice articles for sale. This... More

The Lighthouse and area is very pretty. We went there the day after Thanksgiving and no one was there so we walked around and took pictures and decided to come back the following day to visit the gift shop, we were lookig for some nautical decor.

That was the first time I visited a lighthouse. I love lighthouses and I was so happy. The visit is free and it's, actually, a museum, showing the guests how life in a lighthouse was like in the past.

Classic Chesapeake screw-pile lighthouse. Restored nicely. We were a bit spooked on the way to the top. We felt something unusual on our ascent to the fresnel lens. We felt a sudden whiff of cold air in an otherwise closed compartment. It became stronger accompanied by sudden shaking and erratic bouncing sounds. We started to developed goose bumps after we... It is really cool to walk up to the top and look out at the Mile's River. Nicely curated, great displays.

Always enjoy lighthouses - the one was an interesting tour as there are a number of displays inside, and visitors have free reign to look around at their own pace. This is a great attraction for the family, history buffs, or lighthouse enthusiasts!
