This visitors center is a must see when visiting Cumberland. It tells the story of the canal and how it helped develop the area way back when. they have a replica canal boat that the kids will enjoy seeing and walking through

This is where you would purchase tickets for the Western Maryland Scenic Raidroad, which loads and leaves from the station on the backside of this building. There is a restaurant, gift shop, museum, and bathrooms. I use to work here on the train. Very nice.

The restored train station still functions as a terminal for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. It contains gift shops and an excellent museum of historic frontier Cumberland presented by the National Park Service. A worthwhile visit and highly recommended when you visit!

Most of what I have to say about Cumberland was said in my review of WMSRR. The city reminded me of the run-down sections of Baltimore just outside the Inner Harbor. Sketchy, seedy and not well maintained. As I was leaving a homeless woman took off her clothes to bathe in the fountain on the right side of the building.

This is a great place to stop if you're new to Cumberland or to the general area. The staff is so friendly and helpful - they are passionate about their job. Plenty of place to relax, go to the restroom find brochures and get souvenirs or clothing for your hiking or biking.
