My husband & I tool a walk downtown and stopped by the visitor center. The center is located in a great spot where the bike path is & shops & restaurants. Again staff friendly and helpful. There is a museum included regarding the canals, the museum has audio presentation and videos!

Stopped in to learn about the C&O Canal and learned about so much more! The gentleman at the desk was a wealth of info about the Canal history, local Civil War history, and of special interest to me, the areas fascinating French and Indian War history. We talked for an hour and he helped me set up a trail to... More

Convenient to the Western Maryland Scenic RR, The C&O Canal Nat. Park, and Allegheny bike trail to Pittsburgh. Ask for Ryan. He will talk your leg off on living history.

Very cute place with friendly and helpful staff on the Sunday afternoon we visited. We were able to get maps and they provided suggestions on places to eat in the downtown area.

I stopped to ride the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad but it was closed when I was there as it only runs Thursday - Sunday. So I went to check out the visitors center for something else to do while in Cumberland and the visitors center was a nice surprise to find that the C&O Canal National Park museum is combined... Great information on attractions, restaurants, eateries, and destinations around the cumberland area. The second floor is the lobby for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. First floor is visitor center plus C and O Canal National Park museum. Walk Cumberland goes thru here. Bike trail for C and O and Allegheny Trail connect here. Information on local history, (French and Indian... More

Cumberland Visitor Center is in the bottom of the railway depot. They have information and maps on tourist attractions, lodging, dining and activities in the area. You can also get the free parking pass for the lot here. The hidden gem is a small museum on the C&O Canal. (It's free, but donations are accepted.) If you are doing any... More

This place is tinny and not much of a visitors center like most visitor centers are like. At least you'll learn some history of Cumberland though. There are a lot more things to do in Cumberland than going to the visitors center. If you like riding bikes the C&O Canal or The Great Allegheny Passage.

Good history exhibits. Worth time, but do not need more than an hour. Staff had some knowledge of current status of C & O. If you are going on the C & O, ask them if there are any detours, advisories that are not on websites.
