My family and I just returned from our Saturday ride with Santa on the Polar Express. We have 2 grandsons age 2,who love choo-choos. They were so excited the whole time, they made our trip so much fun. They LOVED it! They had the perfect Santa, and the boys were thrilled seeing the "real" Santa in person. There was a... more

Truthfully, I was hesitant after reading the reviews on this site. But I cast away my fears and am glad that I did. I truly enjoyed the experience on the train. I have a few key points to make. 1. Online reservations were an absolute breeze and staff were extremely helpful when I had questions. 2. The rolling stock is... more

The ordering process was very efficient but that is the end of the pleasant experience. First problem was the "cattle-hearding" process to board the coach cars (first class tickets were unavailable), next the over-whelming stench of sewer outside and inside all cars with the exception of car 100. The trip to Frostburg was expected to take 1 hour but 45... more

My wife and I took her mother (84) on the railroad for the scenic ride. We went on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, so the train was not crowded, maybe 1/3 full. We had a good ride and expected to have a nice lunch at a quaint restaurant in Frostburg during the layover. We didn't know there was a steep climb... more

On Saturday, October 17th, our family of nine took our 76-year old mother on what should have been a fun family outing. The train was scheduled to leave Cumberland at 11:30 which meant we had to be on the platform by 11 a.m. -- only to wait for 45 minutes on a cold overcast day until the train finally arrived.... more

My family just took the train yesterday. We were in coach, not 1st class. Our main goal was to see the foliage. We had 5 kids ranging from infant to 8yrs. The adults ranged from 34 to 75. The kids were bored a bit so I recommend bringing games or something to occupy them. The 90-minute layover in Frostburg was... more

- All in all, pretty fun - The train is older, and so you take that into consideration in terms of the seats, mustiness, etc. - Took my bike, and that system was a bit disorganized - But the actual ride was pretty fun and scenic more

I booked my parents' 50th wedding anniversary party on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. The experience was classy from beginning to end. The train experience is from 11:30 am to 3 PM, with lunch on the train and a stop in Frostburg for an hour before returning to Cumberland. We rode in a restored carriage for the first class service.... more

Caution - don't get off at the Amtrak station! We asked a local for directions to the train station and ended up at a cement building by some tracks. Once we were redirected to the restored station we had a great experience - riding a steam locomotive up a scenic mountain. We loved the pace of the trip as it... more

After reading the reviews, we are so glad that we skipped this attraction. We visited Cumberland because we were nearby & were so disappointed in the town & couldn't get out of that place fast enough. My kids didn't even want to walk down by the railroad station & look around because the place was so industrial & seedy looking.... more
