Scenic Train Ride through Alleghany Mountains

I liked the ride and the scenery but felt that there should have been more lower cost options (i.e. Standard Coach). We were all in one Coach at the end of the train. Also, our... read more

Western Maryland Scenic offers trains that are run by both steam and diesel engines. The trip to Frostburg is not very long, but offers some nice views of the countryside. The only issue I had, and it was minor, was to go to the city, you had to go up 88 steps. Also, the Carriage Museum at the end, which... More

There was 4 in our party. We had purchased our tickets on Internet. We did upgrade to premium coach. The seats were comfortable. The conductor was excellent. He was friendly and helpful. Ride was nice but really nothing to see but trees on the left side which is where we were seated. At Frostburg we had 80 minutes layover while... More

Took the Saturday lunch trip in the diner. The trip was wonderful, scenery and everything. The volume of the narrative piped into the cars was very faint in the diner, but been here before and knew what was being said. Care was taken by the staff to be sure my onion allergy was addressed. Really like the turntable action in... More

I liked the ride and the scenery but felt that there should have been more lower cost options (i.e. Standard Coach). We were all in one Coach at the end of the train. Also, our Coach was much WARMER/LESS AIR CONDITIONED than the other higher priced reserved seating options. It was hard to hear the female narrator over the noise... More

We honestly came to Cumberland almost entirely for this tour, and worked in other things to do to fill the time. I purchased two first class tickets for my fiancé and I, and she looked like she felt rather spoiled. The food was good, the views were majestic, and the Thasher carriage museum is included in the ticket. You're constantly... More

i was excited to reserve my tickets for the railroad and to ride a steam engine. once we got to the station it was a great historic train station. When it was getting close to board a diesel engine pulled up it was very disappointing. we were never informed that the steam engine was down.it would of have been nice... More

Took an excursion in July as part of an anniversary weekend. A comfortable, hour-long ride through the mountains between Cumberland and Frostburg. There are three different fare tiers to choose from: first class gets you lunch and beverages with table seating. The lunch was decent, and the service was friendly and genuine. The less-expensive options were for a car where... More

Booked a 2 top table for the Saturday night excursion. The food and service were great. The staff was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. The train was a diesel powered and the car was comfortable and clean. The murder mystery was put on by a group that has been doing it for 10 years. It was a decent... More

We took the train to Frostburg to ride our bicycles back to Cumberland. The train while historic, was well worn and in need of interior cleaning. The view was mostly wooded with a few scenic spots. The 16 mile bike ride back was an easy ride since it is on a slight down hill grade. You could probably coast back... More

We enjoyed the train ride from Cumberland to Frostburg. We had time for a quick lunch and tour of the Carriage Museum in Frostburg. The engine was turned and we traveled on the same route to return to Cumberland. The Canal with nice trails is at the Railroad Station, and bicycle rentals are available. The Station has a gift shop,... More
