Disappointed-saw almost nothing but trees on both legs of the trip. We thought we would see more on the return, but they didn't turn the train, only the engine, so we were on the same side of the train. The woman said there were many shops and restaurants in walking distance on the break. Well that was after many, many... More

Really nice scenic ride through the mountains. The steam locomotive was great. The cars were air conditioned, clean and comfortable. The crew were pleasant and professional .Everyone should take a ride.

The other reviewers have done a fine job rating the actual train ride and I concur with their assessment. My review will concentrate on the topic of small children riding the train. THIS IS NOT a "Thomas the Tank Engine" type of ride. If your child has the attention span of a knat, please do not take them until they... More

Took the old train to go up the mountain and down. The steam engine is just fascinating, but the trip in itself is definitely not worth the money. The wagons are plain, the view also, and the only thing interesting in Frostburg is the Steam Engine turn around. Food is just not worth the try. During the trip, do not... More

The old steam engine carries you up the mountain. The views of the mountains and valleys on the way up are incredible. We rented bicycles and rode the bike trail back to Cumberland from Frostburg. The ride was very easy since it was downhill all the way though it did take a couple hours accounting for photo stops. The directions... More

We have ridden this train several times and have never been disappointed. The steam engine is a true site when it comes around the corner to pick up the passengers. Also, when the engines goes thru the turntable to turn the engine around to head back down the hill is a little thrilling and beautiful. The ride itself is a little... More

Not as good a view as I hoped for, but I think I may have been sitting on the "wrong" side of the train. I stood in the "open area" of the train car to get a better view. It's nice, but beware the embers flying around in that area (sunglasses may help). I'd definitely ride it again because it... More

Rode the train from Cumberland to Frostburg, had the old steam locomotive pulling which was a real treat. The cars were comfortable and air conditioned, which was important as it was over 90 that day. Conductor and rest of the staff were very freindly, and eager to answer questions, take pictures, etc. The scenery is wonderful. Would highly recommend you... More

This was a great way to spend three and a half hours. The trains run all week, but the steam trains only run weekends, and a few other days. It is not so clear on the website, so if you are hoping for the steam, double check. I recommend the club seat in the parlour. They are more comfortable than... More

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad ride was so relaxing, and I loved the scenery. It was about an hour ride to Frostburg, Md, an hour stay in Frostburg, and an hour ride back. There is a nice place to eat at the train station, a small gift shop, and a carriage museum. There is free transportation into town if you... More
