This is a beautiful area for camping and kayaking. The area has so many beautiful birds - herons, egrets, ospreys! An unspoiled area on the Lower Eastern Shore. The area can be really warm and humid in the July, August months with mosquitos and flies - but if you are prepared you will be fine. The breezes in this area... More

I camped in a 'camper cabin' at Janes Island for 4 nights and it was a perfect getaway for me. I was near the water and far enough away from other campers to feel safely isolated. The staff were helpful and informative. My one caveat is that the kayaking, while beautiful, can be tricky. The ramp for getting in and... More

My wife, stepson, and I just got back from a weekend trip. We had a great time, but I feel the need to post the following information for novice kayak/canoers to the open water scene: This area's signage for the various water trails running through the island are few and far between, and very confusing WHEN you are able to... We camped here for 3 nights. The campground is beautiful and right on the water. Bath-house was nice and clean. Registration people were very friendly and helpful. We brought our kayak. They have kayak storage rack at the launch site so you don't have to haul it back to your campsite each day. They have rental kayaks and canoes as... More

The kayak launch makes it easy to get going! The paddle is scenic and peaceful. Love going there and do it often. Would recommend it highly.

We stayed here for two nights in the late summer, and it was a pleasant and relaxing stay for us. We were in one of the four full-sized cabins, and the cabins is large and can easily fit a family of 6. The screened porch is especially nice. Visitors do need to bring their own blanket/sheets/towels and pillows though. It... More

We love Janes Island State Park! From the Conference Center and Full service cabins to the tent sites and primitive sites on the island, it's a great place to camp. The park itself is on the mainland with the uninhabited island it is named for just across the Daugherty Creek Canal. Water trails for kayaks and canoes permeate and ring... More

This was our first visit to Janes Island, but it definitely won't be our last. We stayed in one of the rustic cabins, but the presence of AC, lights, and a power outlet made it luxurious compared to cabins in other parks. It was a great value, and allowed us to enjoy ourselves while still being able to escape the... More

Spent the weekend July 26-28th and we lucked out with BEAUTIFUL weather. The bugs weren't as bad but we still got bit. No signs of ticks which was a BIG PLUS. We had campsite 47 & 48. Right next to the ranger station/camp store so we were on display for passerbys but it didn't bother us too much. The bathrooms... More
