Awesome day trip to a little island in the middle of the chesapeake. You can dine at the local restaurant, The Bayside Inn, and rent a golf cart or bike and explore the island. Good for all ages.

We made a last minute decision to spend a weekend in the southern tip of maryland with our two kids (8 and 10). We found our first day, at Point Lookout, somewhat disappointing so we decided to spend the second visiting Smith Island. Then we almost changed our mind, given some of the extremely negative reviews. But in the end... More

Loved the water views and all the different species of waterfowl. Museum was small but informative. But we weren't expecting much and it is nice to see how others live which is a big part of traveling. But would have probably rented bikes instead of golf cart since it was totally flat and so small it would not have been... More

Don't waste your money on the $25 RT fare. The boat is only on the island for a couple of hours. This is too long. If you wish to see a dumpy Maryland town, there are plenty of others on the Chesapeake Bay without paying for a ferry ride. If you decide to go, take bug spray!!!!

Smith Island is a great place to go to, but you should carefully consider if you are seeking a quiet, not touristy place. Further if you want a place that caters to tourists, this isn't it. Stay away from the dock restaurant and do the smart travelling at a B&B. The day boat and stop at the bayside will not... More

If you haven’t been to Smith Island, the little place in the Chesapeake Bay not far from Crisfield, MD, it’s a great place to visit, either for the day or several days, depending on one’s interests. Smith Island Cruises, which runs a cruise boat to the island from Point Lookout State Park at the end of St. Mary’s Co., is... More

We went with Smith Island Cruises and our feeling was that they were disinterested in making the day special for their passengers. They took us to Ewell. We were not given a map of the island or any idea of what to expect when we arrived even though we were told we would at the ticket office in Crisfield. We... More

It seems most of the negative reviews are from people who stopped off at smith island as part of a day trip. You need to do a weekend here. We rented one of the smaller homes for a reasonable price it was like 75 a night. It came with kayaks and bikes so one day we kayaked to Tylertown from... More

Certainly, the US of A, has a multitude of cultures and peoples, and here is yet another wonderful slice of our Americana. I read some of the other reviews, and this is my take. Yes, it is small buts its a very quaint little island, and IF you are a "walker" this would be a wonderful location for one of... More

My husband and I took our boat to Smith Island in early June. It seems that we were fortunate a tour group was arriving shortly after we did or possibly nothing would have been open. The people on Smith Island are friendly and the one restaurant is very good. But we are surprised it is promoted as a tourist destination.... More
