While it's nice to have a beach in the middle of this nice, busy town, it's not the beach I want to go to. Too many people with just too many kids. No waves either. Best bet is Long Sands.

Looked great from our hotel room. We enjoyed watching a couple of surfers brave the February water temps

OK what is your thing? Beach, dinning, shopping, arcades?people watching, zoo, and music? It is here, strolling thru town, listening to music with the sound of ocean in background, and it is free! letting the kids play in playground with ocean view and it is free also, beaching it and just relaxing not a dime,so many things to do all within a short walk, just sitting on a bench... Compared to the beaches I go to at the Jersey Shore, this really isn't much of a beach. Very small. However if you are traveling with small children, this has some positive factors that outweigh the beach area itself. First, there is a sand playground, i.e. a full size playground with sand all over the ground. We went on a... More

Short Sands is a .25-mile (0.4-km) stretch of sandy beach on Ocean Avenue. This is a great little strand despite its rockiness (or lack of sandiness) out closer to the water's edge around low tide. It’s tucked between the cliffs in the village of York Beach, and only 1.3 miles (2 km) from the iconic and world-renowned Cape Neddick Lighthouse.... More

Short Sands Beach has been my favorite beach for about 65 years...with the Goldenrod, Surfside and a fun street of shops...but, the beach is spectacular. My email address even has Short Sands Beach in it...love it there.

If your looking for a great place to take the kids this summer you have to stop at Short Sands in York Beach Maine. As a Child my parents would take us there for the summer. We stayed at Burnetts Trailer Park right behind Yorks Wild Kingdom. I have the best memories from York Beach. It is clean, beautiful and... More

the hurricane from last year did a real job on Short Sands beach..the wonderful sand was washed away to reveal a rocky beach. The town has replaced some of the sand closest to the boardwalk and arcade, but as you move further down the beach, it is very rocky. ON a happier note, we were able to find many rare... More

My family stayed here for four nights and while we had a great time.. I was not a fan of the very small, rocky beach. If you are looking for a BEACH.. long sands is larger but we LOVED Ogunquit which is like 10 mins away. We drove there instead. This little town is great, though.. with touristy shops and... More

Short Sands with it's amusement house and shopping feels very much like you just stepped back in time. The shops are touristy but the whole place has an old school charm. Love the Goldenrod taffy!
