The purpose of our visit was to see our grandfather's peanut roasting machine and it is prominently displayed. They also had a folder of historical data on grandfather which will be a big help in our family tree research. The museum is well... More

Well preserved, meticulously maintained collection of Island history. I particularly enjoyed the photographic history of the Island from it 's granite quarrying days to present day. The civil war photos of Islanders who participated was haunting. There is certainly something for everyone housed within the old Vinalhaven Town Hall.

Every once in a while, we discover hidden treasures. The little museum done by the Historical Society is an amazing place. I have spent hours in it, looking at all the *stuff* and going through documents. It is intimate, fun and the staff are incredibly helpful

Rich, straightforward presentation of island history, including the granite industry, from which many important structures, including the Washington Monument, were built.
