This is a wonderful hike, so don't be intimidated by the "Difficult" rating. After all, it is a solid granite stairway to the top of the approx. 1000 ft Mansell Mtn.. We took our two grandchildren (12 and 8) up with us and they handled it fine. The eight year old needed a few rest stops, but otherwise did great.... More

Tough hike up Mansell Mountain up over 300 cut granite steps, a few iron rungs and a small ladder. Incredible views of overlook of Beech Mountain, Long Pond and the outlying islands just before the summit. The return trail down the backside of mountain is a bit tough as there are no steps & just some steep rock slopes. Nothing... More

Some say this trail is not strenuous - perhaps not for avid hikers and runners - but for me, a moderately fit 59 year old, it was as strenuous going up as going down. If you think you can manage it, do it! It's well worth the effort of going up for the gorgeous views (even on an overcast day)... More

Loved it; haven't done this in the past; for you folks that are looking for nice trail- we loved it! Check out the small Acadia trail guide we got and it really helped us pick this one!

The Perpendicular Trail itself is moderately strenuous because it is uphill on granite steps. But it is not technically challenging - it is steps and 1 very small ladder. If you are scared of heights ( as I am) you will not find this problematic. There are no narrow ledges or ladders going up rock faces. The views are lovely,... More

This is probably the best trail up Mansell and you do not have to be an avid hiker to appreciate it. The trail builders take you right up the cliff face of Mansell overlooking Long Pond. Take Seal Cove Road from Southwest Harbor and follow the signs to Long Pond. There you can go up Mansell, hike along the pond... More

Get away from the crowds and hike the trails near the harbors. Stay for a late lunch in town, stroll through short downtown for shops. This is what makes for an outstanding day on the island!

Nice quiet hike for families or evening stroll. Quiet part of Acadia with ocean views and beautiful sunset, but bring flashlight for return trip.

Hard hike with amazing views. We were surprised to find this trail just a mile from our cabin. We spontaneously decided to do this. Pack plenty of water and give yourself a good 1.5-2 hours to complete the hike and enjoy the views. Mostly large rock steps, on ladder and completely uphill.
