We were meandering back to Newburyport MA after spending a most excellent day in Portland ME. The Cheese Iron in Scarborough caught our attention. An amazing and wonderful shop. The staff are both delightful and full of knowledge. We bought cheeses, cured meats etc. The old man actually said we should drive up there on Friday so we can replenish..........so... More

If you love cheese you must visit The Cheese Iron. What a wonderful selection of local, domestic and imported cheeses! Every accoutrement imaginable - breads, crackers, jams, pickles, mustards, etc. - is there as well. Tasting is encouraged. A carry out menu is available and the desserts looked delicious. So glad I read about this business in the Portland Press... More

Excellent source of cheese and party or snack items. They have their own cheese aging room and a large variety of cheese products. Their prepared platters are well done but a bit expensive. The service is also excellent.

Artisinal cheeses from New England and Europe, cut to your portion after a sample bite. Knowledgeable staff, wines, crackers and French breads, teas and coffees. Sandwiches daily, freshly baked sweets, all displayed in tempting arrangements. Owners on hand to greet you daily, Monday through Saturday. A shopping delight.

While we've never eaten here - the quality and varied selections of cheese and pate' keep bringing us back on our twice yearly trip to the area. The sandwiches that are made in-house look incredible and if the number of people purchasing them to eat-in or to-go is any indication the must be incredible. We'll have to try some on... More

I stopped in to get a sandwich, and to check out the store, because I had heard so many rave reviews from friends of ours. What a great shop! The owners and staff are super friendly. I had a Cuban Panini, and it was very tasty. I only had to wait about a minute for my sandwich, (super fast, even... More

Great selection of cheeses together with an owner who is full of information and a willingness to share her knowledge of cheeses. Enjoyed several tastings before settling down with a Cubano sandwich for lunch. Selected a local blue, a Manchego, and a New England triple creme to take back for happy hour.

Stopped in here after seeing the other reviews on TA. What a beautiful shop. Staff very friendly and helpful. Sandwiches are so delicious on fresh baked rosemary foccacia. They have a few tables inside and out if you want to stay and eat or you can take out. Nice wines, cheeses, salads and great baked goods. Of course they have... More
