Description: The Coastal Children’s Museum is dedicated to providing children ages 2-9...
The Coastal Children’s Museum is dedicated to providing children ages 2-9 and their families the opportunity to explore, discover and learn through play about the natural world, the arts and sciences and the diversity of Maine’s coast. Our Core Values:* Each Child and parent/caregiver deserves respect.* Families are the first educators.* Learning occurs through play.* The Community is out first resource.* The Museum is responsible to the world and the environment. The Coastal Children's Museum opened at Sharp's Point South in the summer of 2009 and we are so excited about our new home and love seeing the children learning, playing and creating. Children (and their parents!) are exploring our indoor sailboat, CedarWorks indoor climber, and “Sharpie’s General Store”. The museum also hosts many species of tropical and Maine Coast sea life in our "Under the Sea Room" and our full size Gulf of Maine touch tank. We also have a daily craft at the art table , puppet theater, Tubes and Tracks, and a woodworking bench and wonderful puzzles and books all throughout the museum.Workshops, special guests, and family fun days are held at the museum entertaining and educating families on diverse topics. We have had programs on dance and movement, animals and insects, writing and poetry, and everything in between. You can also have your birthday party at the museum. Membership is affordable and it entitles you to free admission, and discounts on programs and events, birthday parties, and t-shirts.Check out our website which has details and pictures of all our exhibits, past workshops, upcoming events and more. Why not swing by your new Coastal Children’s Museum. We are open Wed-Sat 10:00- 4:00 and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00. See you there! Summer Hours Tues-Sat 10:00-4:00 and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00

Fine little spot for kids

It's our two-year old who enjoyed this. A good place for some time on a family vacation. Quite a few opportunities for learning and play.

I don't think parents should be charged! Geared towards 1-9 yr olds. We walked in and we were the only ones in there at the time and no one came to the touch tank to show us! My youngest was hoping to see it! Then in one area a older lady came over and asked us if we were in... More

We apologize if your experience at the Coastal Children's Museum was anything less than perfect. I believe you will find our policy of charging for adults is standard procedure in children's museums. In regards to the touch tank, we are sorry that you were not able to enjoy that highlight of our museum, and we thank you for bringing that... More

I wish I was a kid! This would be a fabulous place to spend the day or afternoon or morning. The person in charge gave us a full tour.We did not have children but being teachers were very interested in what it had to offer! It had some very innovative ideas, very creative choices for the kids including puppet stages,hands... More

My grandson loves going to the Coastal Children's Museum! There are many opportunities for hands-on learning...and my grandson particularly loves the "store" and "veterinarian clinic" where he had an opportunity to put a bandage on the "boo-boo" of an "injured" stuffed puppy.

This is a hidden gem with lots for the children to see, touch and play with. We've been several times and they're always adding new exhibits/features - the children won't want to leave!

We took our kids to the children's museum because of some showers coming in. There was only one other family which allowed the kids full access to everything. Many different activities for kids under 8. Older kids would likely get bored pretty quick.

The first thing that was upsetting is that my wife and I were charged to enter the children's museum along with our almost 3 year old who obviously has to be supervised. So for $15 we had the privilege of following him around four different rooms. There is a lot of different toys and things to play with in this... More

This is a great place, however I feel they discriminate against children with special needs. I will not refer ANYONE there beause of this.

The Coastal Children's Museum is located just outside of the downtown area. It may not have a ton of space, but they have organized the play areas well - and they offer a lot to do for any small child. The only thing we lacked was enough time.

My grandkids loved it, ages 2 and 4. They experienced several days of rain and spent two mornings at the Museum where they climbed on a sailboat, played with many hands on exhibits and totally enjoyed their visits.
