We had a beautiful day to walk the Rockland harbor breakwater. This very interesting piece of construction is a beautiful and easy walk, one straight mile on the harbor...walk on water...to the nice lighthouse at the end of it. I took many pictures as usual.. Not to miss if you are in the area. Nice place to walk and cool... More

Pretty sure this walk is well over 1 mile, but short of two. Most of it is over rugged, but walkable mammoth granite slabs. (they have to be mammoth, they have protected Rockland Harbor against tides, Nor'easters, and hurricanes for more than a century. Photos and postcards don't do this venue justice. You cannot appreciate the scale and size of... More

Visited the lighthouse and breakwater in early June. To be at sea level and to get a this kind of view from the breakwater almost gives you the impression that you are walking on water. As you are getting farther from the shoreline and turn around, you can chart your progress. I jogged on the breakwater for most of the... More

This is one of the nicest lighthouses and views we've ever visited. The 7/8 mile (each way) walk out on the stone jetty makes it even more special. The day we visited Rockland had a blues festival going and there were many tall ships that were passing back and forth in front of the lighthouse making it even more amazing.... More

Worth the trek out to the lighthouse - and the breakwater, being carefully placed granite blocks, is easy enough to walk on. Even brought the dog with us! Go at sunrise or sunset - pretty jot in midday sun.

Please see my review about the breakwater listed under the lighthouse museum... In my enthusiasm for the area I erroneously put it under the wrong attraction!

We braved a windy, grey day to walk all the way out to the lighthouse but were very disappointed when we got out there. You can't even get a good view of the lighthouse from the breakwater. And since you can't go in the facility, there is really no reason to waste your time. We saw a lot of people... More

Happy walk out to lighthouse on the breakwater. Great views of boats, the islands, Rockland, Camden hills, and of course, the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater.

Bring your walking shows if you want to see this lighthouse. It's roughly a mile round-trip. I would not suggest anyone who is not steady on their feet walking the Breakwater as there are some spots where the rocks have shifted. Its a beautiful walk though any time of day and has fantastic views once you get to the lighthouse.
