We knew we were in Maine just by looking out over the water to see hundreds of Lobsta buoys. The walk is nice in the morning, just don't forget the coffee.

It was too rough a walk for my Husband but I did it. I watched many younger people sailing right along but for me the very uneven path often with bits of metal or rebar sticking up and some wide gaps between stones was somewhat disconcerting and I had to proceed carefully. However I was very pleased when I successfully... More

As has been mentioned before, it is about a mile walk along the breakwater to get to this lighthouse (2 mi round trip), but it, like most every Maine lighthouse, is worth the effort. The walk is not hard, as it is completely flat. Just watch your step not to slip into one of the cracks between the giant flat... More

this lighthouse is 7/8 mile out on big fairly flat granite rocks which for us old folks are easy to walk on. The day we were here it was sunny but cool and some waves were splashing on both sides and we saw a lot of birds. it was a lot of fun

I have lived in the area my entire life but had never seen the inside of the lighthouse until now. We had just chosen to walk the breakwater for the exercise when we noticed that the lighthouse was actually open! We scoped out the small gift shop inside that had several different knowledgable staff about the lighthouse and it's history.... More

Great challenging walk to the lighthouse. Wish there had been a Johnny on the spot somewhere. It is picturesque, and fun to see the lighthouse from the Steohen Taber a few days later.

It was a neat walk out to see the light up close. Unfortunately the lighthouse was closed to the public for some restoration work, but we still found it worthwhile to go out. Didn't realize it was almost a mile out in the bay, and it didn't seem that far until you are about 1/2 way out, but it was... More

It was a great 2 mile walk on the Bay, not much like the traditional lighthouses but in a unique setting which makes it fun!

This is a unique lighthouse. It isn't very tall. It isn't overlooking a rocky shoreline. You have to walk 7/8 of a mile to get to it. But it is on the edge of the breakwater entering Rockland Harbor and the view from the middle of the water is fantastic! The breakwater itself is made up of granite blocks laid... More
