The Rockland Breakwater Light sits at the end of a 4,300 foot long granite rock pier. It's a nice but long walk out over huge slabs of granite - make sure to wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a windbreaker or sweatshirt on blustery days (it can feel much cooler than when you're on land). The lighthouse is open from... More

Walk is about 7/8 mile each way. If the weather is pretty good, the waves are gentle and you don't get much sea spray. We walked out to the end with a 4 and a 2 year old. If you have to carry your kids or are thinking about a stroller, don't make the walk...too many gaps and cracks for... More

We have been to Rockland/Rockport/Camden area several times and I had never heard of the lighthouse. We went with friends and it was a great walk! Gorgeous views, we had kids with us from age 4-12 and they loved it too. We were very disappointed to walk all the way out to the lighthouse only to find out it was... More

If you go to Rockland, weather permitting, you need to walk the breakwater (about 7/8 miles) out to the lighthouse. The views are spectacular, so make sure to bring your camera! Currently, the lighthouse is being rehabbed, but that shouldn't discourage you from going!

I was not able to walk out the entire way due to water covering the last 200 ft or so. The lighthouse was closed that day. If you want to go into the lighthouse be sure to do research beforehand so you are not disappointed. I personally think it's worth it regardless. It is a pretty cool thing to do!

You HAVE to do this whenever you are even remotely close to Rockland! We have walked this close to a mile hike over the rocks of the breakwater many times, during all times of the year. It is a wonder! This time the weather was sensational and sail boats and lobstermen were on the waters all around us. It is... More

Be prepared for a long walk over uneven terrain. Well worth the walk! make sure you take water if it is hot. Can also get breezy out on the water so you may wish to take a jacket. There are NO restrooms at the lighthouse and none in the parking area....plan accordingly! Plan on 1 1/2 to 2 hours for... More

To access this lighthouse you will need to walk along a narrow path to get to the breakwater, then walk 7/8 of a mile on the rocky breakwater. It is definitely worth the walk. The view of Rockland port is beautiful. When taking pictures of the lighthouse it is best before you get there as the breakwater is narrow around... More

It's a long walk about to the lighthouse on uneven stone, but it's worth it. Once you're a mile out into the bay, you get some of the best views on the Mid-Coast. I wish I knew how to upload some of the pictures that I took. Note: do not drop your phone. You'll never see it again.
