Save our Lighthouses!!!! Revisited this lighthouse with my son. My first time visiting was over 30 years ago with my dad. Excellent walk high or low tide! Didn't get a chance to go in, but had a great conversation and walk with one of the weekend volunteers. If you love LHs, don't miss this one!

This walk is along very large level rocks. As long as you watch your step and are used to minimal walking you'll be fine. Some of the reviews make this breakwater sound like there are huge crevices you have to be careful not to fall in - that is NOT the case. This is probably the easiest walk over rocks... More

This was a wonderful experience. It allows you a beautiful view of the shoreline from a totally different vantage point - a mile out in the water. Definitely worth the walk out. Id suggest wearing good walking shoes or sneakers as the rocks aren't quite all the same level.

The walk out this breakwater puts you almost a mile out from shore. Fabulous views. Just wear sturdy shoes/sneakers - there are good-sized spaces between some of the boulders.

We walked the breakwater out to the lighthouse in mid afternoon. I would recommend going earlier in the day in summer. The walk on the breakwater was very pleasant- about a mile to the lighthouse then a mile back. The breakwater is fairly even to walk on, wear good walking shoes! The lighthouse is very interesting to walk around and... More

Are you looking for something to do that doesn't involve food or cost anything? If so the Rockland Breakwater might be just the thing. The breakwater juts out into Penobscot Bay almost a full mile with gorgeous views of nature and sailboats. The day we went the lighthouse was open for a tour an added bonus. It's important to wear... Looking out to the lighthouse gives you a bit of a pause. It is about a mile out and then of course, the same back. The breakwater is relatively flat, but the boulders forming it are spaced relatively close together, leaving some rather large openings between the boulders. It was very windy the day we hiked out, but overall it... More

The breakwater is a great way to get exercise and see the beauty of the midcoast. This is a great walk at sunset, sunrise, or any time in between. It can get foggy, however, so this is definitely a fair weather activity, but makes for a great walk and talk and also a good site for photography. Would not recommend... More
