Walking the breaker to the lighthouse feels like you are walking from one island to the next. Its so beautiful to look over the edge and see the sea urchins, crabs, and the sea gulls that are resting. You don't have to be in terrific shape to walk the breaker, but you do need to be careful as there are... More

A long breakwater with a lighthouse at the end pretty much say's it all. On a nice summer day it can be a beautiful walk with great views. The Rockland lobster boat race is held there. During Windjammer days a parade of sailing ships glides by. It's a great place for a picnic. Please remember, "Don't be an idiot!" Pay... More

What a great thing. Build a 3/4 mile long walking path that also serves as a breakwater. Bring a bottle of water with you and DRINK IT. You will get dehydrated by the sun and wind. Leave sandals and leather soled shoes at home. wear sneakers or Vibram soled footwear.

It's a mile out to the lighthouse. Can be slippery at times, but well worth the walk. Need to be careful of your footing as it's uneven rocks and some like to fish off the jetty. You can sit on the ledge on the lighthouse and watch the boats.

We went to Maine during mud season, but even with the drizzly weather we did not want to miss this. Word to the wise...they mean it when it is stated that the lighthouse is 3/4 of a mile over uneven terrain. Make sure that you are wearing proper shoes and can handle that distance. There is a rocked surface that... More

It's a well restored breakwater but watch your step still! Nice views of Rockland and Owls Head and close encounters with the ferry and boats passing by. With the break just under a mile, the parking lot to lighthouse will give a good walk including some shoreline rock skipping.

If you are in the Rockland area this is an absolute must. Be sure to bring your sneakers since walking along the breakwater can be uncomfortable and a bit dangerous in sandals or flip flops. It's almost a mile to the lighthouse if you count the walk from the parking area. A bit difficult for some dogs unless they're really... More

The Breakwater offers a mile long walk right out into the middle of Rockland Harbor. The views from there are spectacular, with a feeling of being right on the ocean. For those that just want to enjoy the view, there is some seating right along the shore, looking towards the busy port of Rockland.

Don't get in too much of a hurry to get to the lighthouse. The path to this lighthouse is like no other.
