The first time I saw this, I thought it was a duck house. It's really an amazing light house -well worth the walk if you have time and inclination.

We stopped by here late one afternoon and started to walk to the very deceptive-by distance- lighthouse. We returned more than an hour later. What you do not realize is that the lighthouse building itself is 4 stories tall so as you walk and look back and walk and look back again and walk even farther, you finally get the... More

We love to walk the breakwater out to the lighthouse whenever we are in Rockland. The hike on the massive rock breakwater is quite an adventure and is as close to "walking on water" as you can get. It is around a mile from land to the lighthouse at the end and that puts you roughly in the middle of... More

Wear a good pair of walking shoes & be wary of wet rocks - they can get slippery at times. The rocks are large & flat, making the walk fairly easy for MOST able bodied people. However, seniors or parents with young children should be careful. It's almost a mile out to the Lighthouse but well worth the walk. Once... More

This is a very good place to go if you are young and like to walk. I happen to be over middle aged and I do like to walk, but it is almost a mile out to the light and a mile back...on granite that is uneven. And then you could not get up into the light. I thought the... More

One of the very unique experience we had the chance to enjoy in Maine. Once you made you way to the start of the walk, leave the car behind and start the long and uneven walk towards the lighthouse. It is picture perfect, and if you go there at the end of the day, you will experience one of the... More

Make sure to wear tennis shoes or good walking shoes, they told us that the rocks can get very slippy if it has rained. The walk is about a mile out there, but well worth it. they have so places to seat and rest once you get there. you can go up into the lighthouse it is just a few... More

Have your walking shoes on for this bumpy 2 mile walk out and back. Once you get to the lighthouse there are benches to sit on but no restroom or drinking water. The skyline is beautiful to look at but watch your step!

We walked out to the lighthouse on a beautiful October morning. The break wall is uneven but easy to navigate if you watch your step. Great views of harbor and a part of Samoset golf course.

What a beautiful place to see the bay and a lighthouse to boot. The walk is a little long, 7/8th of a mile and you have to watch your step, the granite is uneven but once out t0 the lighthouse the views are breathtaking. Be sure to check the hours as you do not want to make the trip out... More
