Lucky Catch Cruises offers 1 1/2 hour lobstering excursions in Casco Bay, Maine. The tours depart from Long Wharf in Portland and operate from the first weekend of May through the last weekend of October. A typical lobster excursion involves pulling eight traps near scenery such as the Portland Headlight Lighthouse, Civil War Fort Gorges and the Seal Rocks. Lobsters can be purchased after the tour for a discounted price and brought to the restaurant next door for cooking. We limit the number of passengers on each boat, so please call ahead for reservations. All the best from Maine!

Captain Tom has a brilliant idea here. Take people out on beautiful Casco Bay to see the sights and learn how to catch a lobster. When my son was young we would go out with Captain Tom at least once a summer. It's just a plain blast to get the rubber gloves and aprons on and actually stuff the bait... More

Wonderful and Truthful experience!! You get to experience the ups and downs of a lobsterman's work, learn that not all catches are keepers, and learn to empty and stock the traps, and have a BLAST! Be sure to bring your camera and take lots of pictures and videos. Also bring a ball cap or visor and sunglasses.

I was able to learn a ton about lobsters and how they are trapped. I even got to keep 3 of the lobsters that we caught and brought them to Portland Lobster Co. to cook so I could eat them. Highly recommend.

Nobody in Maine does a Group Lobster cruise any better than this company. Great operator and what a hands-on experience. If you are looking for a GREAT time and to meet new friends you have to go!!!

My daughter and I went on this cruise on a very chilly October morning. Even though it was cold for 2 southerners, we both agreed this tour was the most fun and captured the essence of the waterfront in Portland. The crew helps you bait the traps, retrieve one's that have been submerged, band their claws etc. I do suggest... More

Be sure to wrap up warm if you're taking the tour. Absolutely loved this - unfortunately we didn't catch any lobster on our trip but everyone was able to get involved with baiting the traps, and pushing them off the side to set them. A fun trip and something different to the usual stuff - both tour guides were wonderful... More

We took the 10:30 am tour and was greeted and instructed on the safety features and where everything was incase of emergency. Being an oilfield guy I sure do appreciate a crew that takes safety serious. They Captain told us the rules and regulations of the lobster industry as we cruised out to the pods. If anything its worth the... More

What a nice thing to do for an afternoon - made a nice change from museums, guided tours and the like and given we had been eating a lot of lobster, it seemed fitting to do this trip! It was very good value, not too long, great photo opportunity but the people were also very knowledgeable and very accommodating. They... More

I would really be surprised if travelers from all over weren't loving this experience in downtown Portland. You are on a boat for 90 minutes, and you learn the basics about catching lobster. The affable crew allows you to be "hands on," too. The boat holds roughly a dozen people or so, and you can purchase a lobster at the... More

We booked this tour based on TripAdvisor views. We are so glad we did. We truly enjoyed our time on this boat. We participated in all the steps of trapping lobsters. So it was fun and a learning experience. We purchased our lobsters at an amazing price and walked them over to Portland Lobster Company where they cooked them for... More
