Description: Victoria Mansion, also known as the Morse-Libby House, is the finest...
Victoria Mansion, also known as the Morse-Libby House, is the finest example of residential design from the pre-Civil War era in America. With superb architecture and well-preserved original interiors that were among the most lavish and sophisticated in their day, it is an unparalleled document of America’s highest aspirations in architecture, interior design, and the decorative arts. Our history, a quick tour, and our present-day efforts at restoring the Mansion convey an impression of the significance of this unique site, which is of national and even international importance.

While the place is hanging on by its fingertips, as money to keep up a +/- 150 year old elegant mansion is hard to come by, that they were able to save this one of a kind from being bulldozed into a gas station a couple decades ago was a miracle. Beautiful original furnishings along with rare trompe l'oeil walls... More

we loved the Christmas time expo where artists were give one room to decorate in a particular theme and color scheme. Each room was still treated in a traditional Victorian style. Much of the original elements are present in their elegance. This tour was wonderful. What a gem in the heart of Portland.

Lived in Portland for nearly all my life and often drove past this beautiful old home without ever visiting. When my dear friend came from Germany for a week during the Holidays I thought this was the perfect opportunity. We were not dissappointed! I found the ticket reasonable when one considers how much it cost to renovate a home of... More

We went to this in September. You could not take pictures inside because they had books for you to buy instead so as a consequence, I do not remember much about it except that it was nice and that you could see the harbor area from the upstairs windows. I remember it as being nice and that it was in... More

Portland is historic, but not often in the way of glamour and old world money. What one sees in other coastal communities like Newport you won't readily find here in the still working class city. The Victoria Mansion is a surprising find in the middle of Portland, a turn-of-the-century relic that has been cared for by both its residents and... More

Went during the Christmas holidays, the whole house was beautifully decorated! Each room was done by a different florist or decorating company in Portland. THe docents were well informed and the guide book was excellent. As a college student it only cost $ 7 to get in, (when you show your ID). I recommend this historic house to anyone taking... More

We visited over the Christmas holiday, and the place had been decorated for the occasion.Over the top, kitchy and grossly overpriced. The house itself is pretty tacky, and in need of refurbishing, but the charge of $12.50 p.p was way out of line!

Had docent tour, so learned a lot of detail. Made me think of Beverly Hillbillies; somewhat crass, but amazing that it still stands with much original decoration & otherwise well-documented faithful restoration. Elaborately decorated for Christmas & rather pricey. Gift shop in rear carriage house worth a visit for history & fru-fru.

Went to visit the mansion for the first time with my family. Had children of ages with us. Sad that I haven't been sooner. This place is a work of art.Every little inch of it. Being a professional artist I appreciated all the efforts that went into the decor. The staff were very helpful in explaining the history and in... More

This mansion is UNBELIEVABLE!! I wish we were back there right now to see it decorated for Christmas- it is an absolutely gorgeous property with wonderful stories behind its architecture and furnishings. Highly recommend!
