Whether climbing a mountain, entering a bear's den, role-playing crewmembers on a 40-foot schooner or manning a space shuttle, children will have a blast at this highly interactive museum. Most of the museum is geared to children aged one to 11, but young teens will like the computer lab and the camera exhibits. There's also a play area just for toddlers.

I took my sons to the Children's Museum while on vacation in Portland. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was blown away! There were so many exhibits, so many things to see, and so much learning to be done! My younger son was obsessed with the huge fire truck and the farm setup. I read some reviews that... More

This museum is awesome for our almost 3 and almost 5 year old. They can play for hours and still not be ready to leave. I am sure this is not a "hidden" gem for most, but we live over an hour a way and usually go to the Children's Museum of NH. We tried it on a whim on... More

2 story museum with many themes: ranger, fire engine, farm, food, the sea, also a book nook and a indoor playground. Very interactive educational displays. Long list of scheduled daily activities , staff on hand, but a place to go and have fun with your children. I saw single mothers,, grandmothers enjoying activities with children

Okay. I can't wait to wash my hands after visiting this place (or any place where little kids swarm). But, my grandkids can't get enough of it. Driving that fire engine in a fireman's hat and boots. The lobster boat. Hiding in the treehouse. Maneuvering a crane. Building a fairy village. Three floors of stuff to do! If you come... More

We spent 2 hours exploring all 3 floors of this museum. The fire engine was my grandson's favorite! There are many learning/exploring activities that really appeal to kids under 5. From the real-life kitchen, to the space rocket cock pit, and the ranger room with turtles and a fish tank, plus much more. Well worth the 9 dollars to get... More

It's a fun place for toddlers and young children. I would say that it will entertain kids from ages 1-7 best. It's kind of a cramped space but is pretty clean and has plenty to keep our toddler (age 3) entertained. Lots to climb and grab. We tried sitting through the live puppet show and found it to be rather... More

We love bringing our kids to CMTM because there is so much to learn and discover. Exhibits cater to children of all ages, and activities vary each day. My kids have fun learning about science, fine and gross motor skills, art, geography, social studies and mathematics without even realizing it! It's obvious everyone on staff loves children and are passionate... More

our just turned 6-year old really likes the scale and nature of the exhibits. his favorite was the ball/tube/vacuum room. we also used their school vacation camp for two days. he found this a little boring day 1, when they spent most of their time in one small room. Day 2 was more to his liking with a hands-on exploration... More

Every time we go to Portland we must stop at the Children's museum. My kids love the fire truck and the treehouse. It is a great indoor activity but can get very crowded.
