Whether climbing a mountain, entering a bear's den, role-playing crewmembers on a 40-foot schooner or manning a space shuttle, children will have a blast at this highly interactive museum. Most of the museum is geared to children aged one to 11, but young teens will like the computer lab and the camera exhibits. There's also a play area just for toddlers.

Awesome, but expensive

So expensive! $10 for anyone over 18 months. Unless you are planning to spend a few hours there, it's too much money! Really awesome inside though. My two year old loves it.

Not what I expected especially for $10 per person. Geared for the young child. The 5 year old loved it but the 8 and 10 year olds were bored and not impressed.

There are many hands on activities for the kids to interact with. The museum has many different activities and is easy to roam around with no lines. The museum is also in the middle of Portland close to everything else.

I have take my grandchildren to the children's museums of Atlanta, Denver, Savannah, and Breckenridge CO. Who would expect Portland Maine to top them all? It does! Activities and exhibits on multiple floors, inside and outdoors. Well planned, well staffed, well stocked. We have spent hours there on multiple visits.

I wish it had a little more room and that they had had faster checkin. It was a rainy Sunday and only one person was checking people in it was pretty crowded and we had to wait outside in the rain for 30 minutes. It's about so floors of activity. The had an indoor playground, fire truck which both my... More

I took my sons to the Children's Museum while on vacation in Portland. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was blown away! There were so many exhibits, so many things to see, and so much learning to be done! My younger son was obsessed with the huge fire truck and the farm setup. I read some reviews that... More

This museum is awesome for our almost 3 and almost 5 year old. They can play for hours and still not be ready to leave. I am sure this is not a "hidden" gem for most, but we live over an hour a way and usually go to the Children's Museum of NH. We tried it on a whim on... More

2 story museum with many themes: ranger, fire engine, farm, food, the sea, also a book nook and a indoor playground. Very interactive educational displays. Long list of scheduled daily activities , staff on hand, but a place to go and have fun with your children. I saw single mothers,, grandmothers enjoying activities with children

Okay. I can't wait to wash my hands after visiting this place (or any place where little kids swarm). But, my grandkids can't get enough of it. Driving that fire engine in a fireman's hat and boots. The lobster boat. Hiding in the treehouse. Maneuvering a crane. Building a fairy village. Three floors of stuff to do! If you come... More

We spent 2 hours exploring all 3 floors of this museum. The fire engine was my grandson's favorite! There are many learning/exploring activities that really appeal to kids under 5. From the real-life kitchen, to the space rocket cock pit, and the ranger room with turtles and a fish tank, plus much more. Well worth the 9 dollars to get... More
