Whether climbing a mountain, entering a bear's den, role-playing crewmembers on a 40-foot schooner or manning a space shuttle, children will have a blast at this highly interactive museum. Most of the museum is geared to children aged one to 11, but young teens will like the computer lab and the camera exhibits. There's also a play area just for toddlers.

Since we were staying in Portland for a day or two, we decided to take our 3 year-old grandson to the Children's Museum in the downtown area of Portland. He absolutely loved his experience their and we literally had to drag him out when it was time to leave. Parking in the general vicinity, however, can be a challenge on... More

This saved us many days - it's a wonderful place with lots of climbing opportunities, big fire engine that children can "drive" (life sized!), science projects, play grocery store, ship etc etc.

On a rainy day it seems that all vacationing out-of-staters have the same idea: take their kids to the children's museum. We had to stand in line outside in the rain for quite a while, and any available parking was far away too. Inside on a rainy day is a noisy chaos. If you can get past the noise and... More

My brother and I loved this museum when we were kids. We flew to Maine every year and this was at the top of our to-do list! It's very interactive entertainment for youngsters of today's generation!

Lots of activities and talks. Hands on demonstration and something new every month. Particularly suited to children under the age of 10yrs to explore and interact, whether they are budding fire"people" to astronauts and farmers, they will find something to enjoy here

Great compact, friendly fun! Outdoor area based on a Maine Author's books! Working ATM that spit out money and kids were collecting and spend in the market before milking the COW-great to experience with out the smell of the barn for me!

A lot of different areas for kids to explore. Great activity for 2-3 hours of fun and learning with the kids. Some of the exhibits could be kept a bit more in order and I felt there could be a bigger staff presence on the floor to help facilitate that. The fire engine was a treat for my son and... More

We took our daughter here for an afternoon of adventure and mind bending. It's not just another play gym, there is loads of creative things available to engage your child's senses. I actually got involved and played on some of the attractions! They have everything from ball pits to life-size vehicles. there are two floors and the second has a... More

We were on vacation and did not plan on stopping here. After checking out shopping, lighthouses and eating, my 3 year old needed a little kid time to play. The Children's Museum was perfect and we spent 2 hours there. She loved the shadow puppet skit the staff put on with the little ones. There was a great area section... More
