Neat stores, cobblestone streets, a few restaurants, ice cream shops. In the day. Nice on weekend days. At night it turns into a beer drinking, sloshed mob urinating on the streets, even with motorcycle gangs roaring unmuffled choppers through the streets. For a while the cops wouldn't be seen in there unless they got a panic call. Unless you want... More

Shopping in the Old Port is like taking a glance back in time. There's a ton of shops, but it doesn't feel hurried and chaotic like other places. And to top it off you are right in the heart of Portland, Maine- a gorgeous old sea port that still carries the same charm.

This is the only restaurant I found in Portland that serves grilled calamari, which was totally awesome. Oyster selection was wonderful. Salmon and scallops are equally wonderful.

This place is worth spending a full day...you can cruise the harbor, sit on a deck and listen to music, tour a brewery or a distillery, and shop little boutiques till you drop...faves include Cabot Cheese Annex, Portmanteau, LeRue, and many, many more.

Old Port is great!!!! I wish there were less Gift Shops and Retail stores however more international cuisine restaurants (and much more seafood and raw-bars). The Old Port is great year 'round except winters can be a drag. Nonetheless, it is one of my favorite close to home get-away destinations in Maine,

There are a mix of mostly local shops but some major retailers too including an Anthropologie. There are several hotels and some limited parking. If you aren't from New England, this time of year, wear warm, flat boots :)
