There are so many great shops and so many great places to get food. Lots to do and see during the day (esp in summer), and on Fridays and Saturdays the Old Port is THE night life spot in Maine.

This area is a typical tourist spot with typical tourist stuff. Stray away from Old Port there are some wonderful small shops. The choice of art exclusive to Maine and some other artists. Old Port is Okay but I choose the small shops with wonderful things to offer

The shops are all decorated for the holidays! Stores are open later than normal. Plus, there are plenty of places to grab a quick drink or bite to eat!

I live in Tokyo but I owned a home on the Western Promenade in Portland and spent summers and holidays there for a number of years. The Old Port is a charming segment of Portland, with some delightful, creative retail shops and other businesses, but like all of Portland, the options for dining are sad. Most visitors head to diMillo's,... More

Close to Freeport and a great place to walk around during a nice day and shop or visit their many pubs. I saw there is a train system going through Freeport but not sure if it stops anywhere's near Old Port. If not it is a short drive into town. Worth the visit.

It had great restaurants and shops. Loved the quaintness of the area. So much to see in such a small area.

I live here and still don't get a chance to spend the time I'd like. Everytime I do, I find a new, fun, interesting shop. Lots to see and do...

by day-shop, eat; by night -- eat, drink, dance, listen. There are more restaurants and pubs than you can shake a stick at!! Many places with great ethnic and metro feel, or some (especially along Commercial and Fore Street) with more casual/blue-collar feel. Just walk around and enjoy!!

There are to many shops open in the old port to mention, even in the dead of winter. A great way to shop and see new things and also stay warm on a cold winters day.
