There are all kinds of stores and shops in this harbor/wharf area. We especially liked one of the kitchen stores facing the waterfront. There are many places to eat and at night all of the pubs and clubs come to life about 10pm! there are some public parking lots but if you stay in the area as we did at... More

The area is small and LOADED with places to eat/drink and shop. Good way to spend a couple of hours wandering. The architecture was beautiful, but I wouldn't consider this a destination, more of a quick stop. We did have some gelato at Gorgeous and it was fantastic! Dark chocolate was truly rich and the gorgeous flavor was delicious too... More

It was mine and my wife's first time to Maine. After a week in the Mountains, we stayed the night in Portland to catch a plane the following morning to regretfully return home. We had lunch, walked around and shopped for t shirts and what not. My first impression was that of...uh...where the heck are we gonna park? So- we... More

My wife and I had a small dish each of Whiskey Chocolate/Gorgeous Gelato and Dark Chocolate/Panacotta. Great price (3.25 each for a small dish that was totally satisfying while still leaving room for a lobstah roll later) and delicious. If you really like chocolate, the Dark stuff was great; the whiskey (actually, Jack Daniels sour mash) is a little more... More

We had a great time visiting the old port. Little shops and restaurants everywhere. We found parking fairly easily. You can walk everywhere once in the old port.

My husband and I took a day trip from Concord, Ma here on a Saturday. We were pleasantly surprised by the quaint shops and TONS of restuarants. If you like seafood, eat at one of the numerous restaurants on the water. For lunch, you MUST eat at "It's a Wrap". The sandwiches were big and tasty and you MUST have... More

Had the misfortune of visiting the Old Port area of Portland ME. This has to be the most filthy port area I have ever visited in my life. The entire area smells and feels like an open air dump. We stopped by the night before and the place was packed with people, but could not find a place to part.... More

My friend and I booked the trolley and the boat tour of Portland. Far and away-JJ is the man for the trolley tour! The boat was scenic and quasi informative. I don't blame the boat's tour guide, the day we went it was cccooold! I don't think I could have paid attention if I wanted to! Which leads me back... More

If you like wandering in and out of little shops and exploring, a trip to Old Port might be just the thing. Just 2 hours from Boston and worth the drive. Plenty of shops and good eats. Also check out a few lighthouses while you're there. Great trip!
