We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn right in the port. Lots of great shops and restaurants. Shops open at 10. Boats leave on tours right down the street. Lots of fun.

We stopped and had a few drinks along the Pier! There wasn't a ton to see but it was a perfect stopover on our way to Boston. Don't forget to bring a lock for the lock fence! The Portland Lobster Co on the Long Warf had excellent Sangria!

We enjoyed walking around Old Port. We took a sunset cruise to see the lighthouses and it was beautiful and relaxing!

Outside of the ferries and tours, there isn't much to do in the Old Port--unless you're looking for restaurants. There are a ton of those. Quality shops are seriously lacking, and parking is at a premium. We paid $4 an hour at a "pay and park" lot. It's worth a visit, but I wouldn't plan on spending too much time... More

Wonderful to walk about, watch the ships in the harbor, see the fisherman and lobsterman, smell the ocean, observe baby seagulls, and just walk around the piers and ports. Beautiful day, beautiful landscape.

Lots of fun little shops, bookstores, lunch spots, and a block away from the working pier. Park in the municipal garage on Fore St. and walk about for the afternoon, maybe even take a boat ride. Be sure to get a map and stop by the visitor center along the street by the wharf.

I love the old cobble stone streets and historical buildings that have been converted into quaint shops and restaurants. I also love how close it is to the bay. The sights sounds and smells are awesome.

this is a real port, with ferry boats and fishing vessels, as well as seagulls and the usual fishy scents you'd expect; there are lots of bars, restaurants, and interesting shops-- great for strolling and sight seeing-- like most of Portland, parking is in short supply

Everything is within reach via walking which is a good thing because parking is an issue and if you're lucky to find it, it's expensive.
