Easily walkable, with plenty of art shops and boutiques, restaurants and bars to explore. Historic architecture and waterfront views. Shops are unique and most are not tourist trap souvenir shops. Found great pottery and sweet treats.

Enjoy a quaint stroll around Portland's downtown area. There are so many little shops with interesting and unique wares. Also Portland boasts some of the highest restaurants per capita so enjoy the cuisine and the atmosphere. I love going down there with my husband on a warm afternoon, grabbing an ice cream and window shopping. We usually end up going... More

Downtown Portland reminds me of St. John's Newfoundland, hills, cobbled streets in the old port, restaurants, bars, shops and a working port. Great place!

The title says it all. Plenty of variety in a small area. Shops we visited had high quality merchandise. Staffs were all friendly, knowledgeable about their goods. Proximity to the water added to the sense of history.

The Old Port has undergone a transformation of the past 25 years and is not the seedy, rowdy party place it once was. I far prefer the bars and clubs in the Arts district and most of the shopping caters to old women. Still there are some great restaurants and it's fun to walk around. Avoid if there is a... More

Check out J's, Standard Baking and the Harbor Fish Market. Bring a cooler if visiting and stock up at the fish market. They will provide ice.

Charming brick sidewalks and building curb appeal expresses itself best at the Old Port Exchange. One of the best models of urban revitalization, Old Port Exchange's mix of 19th century architecture bring a vibrant arts and entertainment, shopping and dining scene to what is now considered the "heart of Portland." The ultimate anti-cookie cutter shopping district, Old Port Exchange thrives... More
