Old Port is the best place to get a bite to eat, take a walk along the waterfront, or take a ferry ride to the harbor islands. Pubs and excellent seafood abound in the area as well as quaint shops and other attractions. Been here several times and never leave hungry or disappointed.

Our first visit to Portland/Maine. We flew up for a long weekend on some friends recommendation and fell in love with it right away. It has its own personality but if i had to describe it, i would say it's like Seattle and San Francisco crashed into each other and only the good parts survived and created Portland and maybe... We stopped here with a group and everyone was able to disperse and find what they liked for lunch. Those interested in shopping were able to find some unique gifts. Most places appeared to be locally owned and not chains. Made a nice stop on our way to Acadia!

While old port has lost some of its charm with all the new condo on the piers, and high end restaurants, It is still worth seeing and experiencing. It is a great partying town. From micro breweries to micro distillers,

Fun, safe, active area to stroll. Many great restaurants for all tastes. Certainly no shortage of places for ice cream or gelato. Lots of live music that you can hear from inside or outside the clubs. I suggest comfortable walking shoes, especially for the cobblestones. The ambiance can be very romantic if you are with the right person.

The Old Port still has some faded charm and many good restaurants but in the summer it's infested with tourists and parking is nigh impossible. I lived in Portland in the late 70s when it was just starting to 'gentrify'--now it's starting to be more trouble than it's worth. Fortunately there's all the rest of Portland which is one of... So glad this neighborhood wasn't demolished and is kept up pretty well. But at the same time it's doesn't have that "preserved in amber" look like so much of Boston nowadays or certain other New England seaports. The Old Port still has some fishing to do and is obviously still at work.

This is very well paved or cobble stoned. There are many activities and shops to look at along the way.

The guys went on the Brew Bus and the girls went shopping. We enjoy poking thru the shops and window shopping.
