If you expect amazing staff maitenance and supreme conditions, camping isn't for you...part of the beauty of Hermit Island is living WITHOUT all of the comforts of a hotel. My family has been camping at Hermit Island for over 45 years, and we love savor every spartan moment that we spend there.

We recently stayed at the Hermit's Island campground. I've done a lot of camping and found this location and scenery to be first rate. The maintenance of the campground however, not so much. Perhaps I am spoiled, I tend to stay in very clean, well maintained facilities. The folks at Hermit's Island charge a lot of money for their location... More

My family loves coming here, its one of the highlights of our summer, we look forward to it every summer. Our first visit was in 2010, we loved it so much we returned later that summer and at least once every year since then. We camp in tents and absolutely love the peaceful, quiet, natural setting. We've stayed at 26,... More

I stayed for 3 nights with my boyfriend. This camping trip was the first time camping where it didn't rain at all! We love taking walks on the trails and going to the beach. The place was very clean but wish we stayed a little closer to the big bathrooms. Highly recommend this place for couples or large groups of... More

I probably had too great expectations for the place seeing all the good comments. Too many sites too close to each other. We were disappointed by the overall feeling of the place: run down and not well taking care of. Kind of trashy and overused. Some sites showed a lot of erosion that could be controlled. Some roads were bad... More

Harbor Reach #28 was separated from the neighboring site by only a few logs (a few feet!) and was high on a cliff, not great for young kids. Channel #3 is a bit more private, but NOT MUCH. All the sites we saw were very close to the "road" and not very private. A few of the Ocean Prime sites... More

Been visiting Hermit Island for the past 3 years and just recently stayed for a full 7 days. A good majority of the sites are large, private, dry and come with good fire pits. Obviously the best sites on the island are situated on the beach or overlooking the ocean, however your never to far away from the ocean even... More

This campground is beautiful, has many very nice, private quiet sites and several nice beaches. It had the potential to be absolutely amazing, however, poor management, stupidity and general lack of care for the property overall far exceeds the uniquely "Maine" oceanfront camping expierence. The island, overall is a breeding ground for insect repellant resistant mosquitos. There is an ubundance... More

We went last summer. Because we reserved in the spring, we were stuck with a choice site. The views of the ocean were spectacular and the beaches were sandy and big. The mosquitos are incredibly bad, so be prepared. One really cool feature is the hundreds of blueberry bushes near the beach. The reservation process is antiquated and they really... More

Where else can you camp on the beach and enjoy this kind of scenery? We love this place. We went last year and stayed at site #42 and we are going back this year. The closer to the beach the better but either way you aren't far from the beach. The store is very well stocked if a bit pricey... More
