What a great experience...borrowed a friends pop up camper, pulled up on a ledge that overlooked the ocean, was foggy and water was freezing but just beautiful and peaceful. The camp store had all the goodies plus fresh scallops and lobster! This was 27 yrs ago but seems like yesterday!

My husband had stayed at Hermit Island as a child with his family and had fond memories so wanted to revisit. We made some great memories here :-) We stayed at #44 Dune Way which was walking distanct to the beach. We... More

I camped here about 50 years ago with my family. I had to return. The campground has many restrictions. I can see why, because they probably don't want the campground to become a party place. However, it would been nice if our local friends could join us for a few hours. The campsite was ok as well as the bathrooms.... More

This isn't glamping, but the beach and views are amazing, the people are friendly, and they steam your lobsters for you. My kids have grown up there.

What a beautiful place to camp.... simple and amazing. I saw my first deer up close and those crazy skunks love us. Very peaceful but tons of biting bugs. I would suggest spending more than 2 nights here and the red hiking trail is amazing.

If you love camping you will love Hermit Island. The beach is beautiful, great walking hiking trails and if you have a boat the launch ramp is easy to use. the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is after 3 days I really needed a hot shower. They have showers, but the water is COLD !!!... More

Great spot. Enjoyed the views and the campsites are nice. Getting there is pretty easy as well and Maine in the summer is the best.

As someone who lives in Maine and has stayed at most of the campgrounds in the Midcoast area, I would avoid this place. The bugs are terrible, the staff is rude and the owner is an old man who apparently likes to harass everyone. We actually packed all of our gear up and left instead of staying overnight. Its a... If you can't handle rustic camping, its not for you. But if you like simple camping, beautiful uncrowded beaches reserved just for campers, amazing sunsets, friendly people, both employees and other campers, being close to nature, exploring tide pools, and just getting away from life, come enjoy! We drive 4 hours to get there, and would be willing to drive... More

No electrical outlets, no water, no sewage station, and even more improbable, no WIFI. Yet our vacation at Hermit Island was memorable. Replace the above-mentioned modern amenities with kayak rides around the island, ocean fishing, bike riding, campfires by the ocean and the mandatory few mosquitoes, and you have all the ingredients for an unforgettable vacation. I forgot: you can... More
