No electrical outlets, no water, no sewage station, and even more improbable, no WIFI. Yet our vacation at Hermit Island was memorable. Replace the above-mentioned modern amenities with kayak rides around the island, ocean fishing, bike riding, campfires by the ocean and the mandatory few mosquitoes, and you have all the ingredients for an unforgettable vacation. I forgot: you can... More

I first visited the island with a friend during college in 1976. As a 'City Boy', I had never been in a tent...Forget about sleeping in one.....We were on Joe's Head and the week was a wonderful experience. The next year my friend was unable to go due to a family emergency. ...So I came alone and stayed up on... More

I'm honestly shocked that there is one negative review of Hermit Island. I've been camping on the island for years and have never had a single compliant. There are several "levels" of campsites ranging in price from ocean prime (right on the beach) to value (nestled in the woods). We have stayed on several spots scattered across the island and... We had a fun time here. The campsites are set up pretty well. The accommodations (bathrooms and showers) are basic but adequate. I particularly enjoyed running on the trails through the forests--I saw several deer. It's a good place to try family camping (it was our first family camping outing--we went for just two nights). Next time, we'll probably stay... More

What a wonderful surprise! We went on a whim in early September. Sites were first-come-first-served this time of year and we for one of the last waterfront sites. Great view and private path to the beach but enclosed enough for privacy. Tons of kayaking and lolling on the beach from morning to night. Had our coffee on the beach when... More

Well .....found out the hard way that once you pay for a particular site doesn't mean it's yours!............We paid for a prime ocean front site (after Labor Day) and by the time we got back to that site someone else who had paid for a different campsite was on it !.....After going back to registration and complaining ....they said "It... the views are amazing! however the trash barrels, bathrooms and sites are dirty and unattended. i would never go on season because of the price and off season prices are up $ince last year. discouraging because the island is a gem! with the prices they charge and get, they need to improve clean up!

The views, trails and beaches on Hermit Island are great and these are the main attractions of this seaside campground. However the poor facilities are what ruined it for us. Our site was private however we needed to clean it up before we set up our tent and dinning fly. Our site(7 Cross Island) was close to the pit toilets... More

As my wife and I were traveling along Rt 1 desperate for a quiet place a stay, we came across Hermit Island Campground and checked it out. We fell in love immediately! Our campsite was secluded and quiet. The main beach was a 2min walk and other private beaches were easy to get to. The rules on the island are... More
