We were directed here by a local in Bath and it was worth the drive out. Interesting structure with cool history. It is located on a pretty spot where the Kennebec River dumps into the ocean. Great beach nearby.

We explored the old fort on Labor Day weekend. we really enjoyed exploring the yard, reading the historical information, and marveling at the way the stones were set to support each other. Sitting right on the beach, we were able to take a long walk , too. This place is definitely worth a stop.

Interesting walk round a fort which the state of Maine hopes to restore. There are lots of information boards explaining the historical significance of Fort Popham which must have been a very imposing sight when it was fully equipped with 2 decks of cannon. There is also the opportunity to walk along part of Popham beach.

Fort Popham is excellent place to visit there is two levels that you can actually go through, there is information printed in different areas of the fort to tell you about the fort. There is places to eat or drink close by, there is no cost to park your vehicle or tour the fort.

While this fort has no tour guides it does have an extensive array of explanatory panels that give the history. It is a great example of how they built forts during the Civil War and gives a better understanding of how they worked. I had no idea that Maine needed to defend itself during the Civil War so it was... More

If you are a Civil War buff or just think forts and castles are cool, the gray granite shell of Fort Popham makes for a good visit. There is limited parking, but there were few cars on the foggy July Sunday we visited, and picnic tables were clear with only one helpful gull in attendance. The ground floor and most... More

Interesting fort from the Civil War era that you can poke around in... doesn't take very long to walk through but it's still a cool place to stop when in the area and read a little of the history of the fort. There's a small parking lot outside, so finding parking on a busy day may be an issue, but... More

Pretty neat fort. Didn't take a ton of time to visit/tour. Pretty cool how they built and structured the fort.

If you like old fort ruins, this is the place. It is interesting and has information boards with the history. The only thing I might add is that it is a bit out of the way to go see. It has picnic area and a couple restaurants so you can enjoy the view.
