This was our second attempt to visit this fort. The parking is very limited but the sights you get to see was well worth the wait. Stair cases the lead to dead ends, pitch black rooms to explore.

We had dinner at Spinney's and then went for a walk to the fort. It is open to just walk through and the kids had fun running all over the place and checking out it's nooks and crannies. There did not seem to be any kind of tour to do.

For a nice sample of Maine coast and history, Fort Popham is a neat place. Parking is limited and hard to find, but worth it. You can explore the fort, watch lobster boats coming and going or sit on the rocks or sandy beach to enjoy the ocean. Bring a picnic lunch and you have a great afternoon of fun

The river mouth view is impressive. The explanation boards are interesting, especially regarding the steps and manpower required to operate a cannon.

At the time we were there, the small scale and remoteness made this place more charming. If you are looking for anything more than local, go to the traditional resorts at Bar Harbor, etc.

Real cool fort. This fort was never completed and still has some cannons. You can climb to second floor but not the top. It was free when I was there

It was great. Lots of history makes you sit and wonder what it was like back in the day. I am sure that there was a whole lot more action there then, then when we were there. The Fort is really awesome. The kids loved the lookout tower.

Neat old fort on the shores. A must see if you're in the area, and of course, then you can go to Spinney's for some seafood--right next door.

during the winter months the fort is closed because for safety reasons-- icy conditions...but the grounds are great for walking around and continuing on to Popham Beach....
