Beautiful unspoiled Maine beach located where the Kennebec River meets the ocean. Great views of several islands. Bathroom and changing facilities provided at the entrance area. We also visited Fort Popham, so we parked near the fort at Percy's General Store for $10.00 and were right at the entrance at the end of the beach. We were there on a... More

My wife, our two teenage daughters, and I thoroughly enjoyed our late afternoon visit during low tide on a weekday, when the beach was quite empty and felt very secluded. We loved walking the expansive tidal flats and wading in the tide pools. The little rocky island that you can walk to during low tide was fun to climb and... More

What a wonderful family friendly beach! It's HUGE and easy to find a great spot even when parking is in the overflow areas! It costs $6 pp for non Maine residents and $1per child age 6-12 I think. There are a few large tidal pools that are no more than 1 foot deep which kids love to play and splash... More

You have to go to this beach when the tide is going out. If you do, you will be rewarded with a unique sight not visible anywhere else. As the tide recedes, a sandbar opens up allowing you to walk to an island from the beach. The island has hidden beaches, seals, sand pipers, hills with amazing vistas to the... More

I am not a beach person - but the rest of the family is so while staying in Freeport, we ventured out to check out this highly rated beach. I have to say this is one of the best beaches I have seen in a long long time. The pictures do not give it justice - at low tide it... More

We enjoyed a visit to the beach even though it almost didn't happen. We arrived at around 12:30 on a nice Wednesday only to find a park employee waiving people by as the parking lot was full. You can park along the roadway leading up to the park where permitted, however all of those spots were gone too! We drove... More

We have been coming to Popham Beach every summer for more than a decade and have never had a bad experience. Try and get there for low tide to walk out to the island. Ocean is cold, but that is true everywhere in Maine. There are usually warmer tidal pools. Park is always clean, lots of room even when parking... More

When you park at Fort Popham the beach starts out very narrow. But if you walk south it expands and soon becomes a beachcomber's paradise. The water is cold for anyone but New Englanders, Canadians, Scandinavians and the like, but refreshing. Be sure to pack an effective bug spray to protect yourself against biting flies.

Absolutely jaw dropping views..Low tide is a MUST see. have you ever collected a Sand Dollar right from the sea or walked to a little island that had been submerged by the sea just hours earlier?

Such a beautiful beach located in the perfect location. It's a wonderful place to spend a good few hours at. The beach has such nice clean white sand, the water seems much clearer. Very nice to take a long walk when the tide is out. Worth the trip!
